This town is a must for anyone passing thorugh southern Spain or Portugal. The beaches are the most beautiful you'll ever see. The partying is also amazing. Try and come early in the summer or the spring. The crowds will be smaller, the weather warm but not too hot, and prices lower. Try and eat at Casa Rosa's, dirt cheap food, that is SO good. There is also a Prtugese place that serves HUGE servings for a decent price. I can't remember the name but ask a local, they'll hook you up. Also, do a Grotto tour. Definitely worth the 10 euros. The further you walk along the coast, the more deserted and beautiful the beaches become. Be warned, those who come to Lagos do NOT want to leave.
Lagos is outrageous. I went summer of '06 for two weeks and ended up there for one month. You have to go.
Lagos is amazing. A friend and I were supposed to stay in Lagos for maybe three or four days and ended up staying for the rest of our trip in Portugal. You just don't want to leave because it is tons of fun. The beaches are gorgeous. You can take a boat ride to the grottoes and swim inside the caves. You also have a great nightlife with tons of fun people! So if you are traveling to Lagos, make sure it's the last place you're going to visit because you will not want to leave!
Aljezur is a nice little village, just twenty-five kilometers north of Lagos. It's a nice and relaxing change from noisy party place Lagos. It's a good spot to go to some of Europe's best beaches for surfing, or just hike along the paths. Even though Aljezur is small, it has all a traveler needs, even a very good hostel. Restaurants and supermarkets are cheap.
I went to Lagos in July 2005. The town is fantastic with loads of great bars and restarants. I also went to Casa Rosa, the food is so good and so cheap.
Lagos This place is amazing. I went for three days and ended up staying for two weeks. Stay at the Rising Cock or the Camel Toe. It’s been a few months since I went and I still think about it every day. Check out Joe’s Garage, it’s the best bar in town. And if you have the time, the booze cruise that is run by Joe’s Garage is a must -- it’s worth every penny.
Amazigh Aljezur in Aljezur Warm welcome and the cleanest hostel is the first to mention! Great sundeck with a view. Kitchen, free Wi-Fi and computers saves money. Amazing is the friendly staff and how clean they keep the whole hostel. Love the rooms and the setup. The place will be recommend to all my friends.
Camel Toe Hostel in Lagos f***ing insanely awesome fun. keep the one-litre club going. beer pong for life. best hostel ever!
Rising Cock Party Hostel in Lagos Honestly, this was one of the best hostel experiences I've had! The guys who run this place rock! Amazing service!! Lagos was so much fun. It's a huge party scene — beautiful people and bountiful booze. I'm going back again before to this hostel before I head back to the States, and the Rising Cock is definitely part of the reason I'm headed back there. This place is amazing!!
Ps. Buy a Rising Cock T-shirt; they rock.
Carlos House Hostel in Lagos I was there at the end of June 2005 and I had a great time there. The owners make everyone feel like they're at home and they arrange barbecues and other fun. The atmosphere is great and all the guests hang out with each over on the roof terrace in the evenings. I met some really nice people there. No doubt it's the best hostel in Portugal. You have to go there!!
And to Carlos and Arthur, thanks for everything!
Pousada de Juventude Hostel in Faro A good choice for your stay in Faro. The beautiful old town is just ten minutes away, parking in front of the building, the staff is very friendly, it's easy to meet other people, common areas and bathrooms are well-equipped, modern and clean, but the wooden beds quite noisy. We were there midweek in September and the town was a bit too quiet in our views, but I suppose it's different on summer weekends.
HI - Lagos Hostel in Lagos This place is great. They hooked me up in a time of need. You don't have to have a HI card to stay here, so don't get scared away. The rooms here are cleaned every day. The staff are super friendly, they'll tell you all the good places to go (don't be surprised if they are out partying at the same places you are!) The location is great, too. It's a close walk to all the bars and the beach. The 1-euro breakfast is also great! And they serve it until 11 so you can sleep off the booze from the night before). The only thing that sucks about this place is that the showers aren't the greatest.
Dina's Guesthouse in Lagos Dina was the nicest lady ever, although she didn't speak much english. The place was absolutely spotless, and it was so nice to sleep with such clean sheets and have clean towels after a shower! The kitchen was a very nice size, and immaculate. Amazing value for the price. It's a little hard to find as it's tucked away, but it has an awesome location -- it's literally one minute's walk from the town center!
Azelinda Guesthouse in Lagos very clean and nice, good location, and great view.
Casa Amarela in Lagos Good Points: More like a B&B--the rooms are so charming. Breakfast is very good, there's cheap laundry service, and the bathrooms are spotless.
Bad Points: It's a little out of the way from town and the beach, it's hard to meet fellow backpackers, kitchen is sub-par, and they accept cash only.
Summary: I would definitely stay there again, as it's worth every penny. On a side note: try not to walk around Lagos with a pack on, as you will be accosted left and right by people asking if you need a room--pain in the butt. Plus, the ocean is FREEZING even in the summertime!
