Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk Yes, this is probably one of the best hostels in Europe. It has a very nice and helpful staff. All around, it's a great place.
Patron Hostel in Gdansk If you smoke, drink and party hard, then this is not a place for you. We spent four nights here and it was a nice place to come back to each night. The rooms are modern, well decorated, have plenty of storage space, and a fridge as well as a large TV. The bathrooms are spotless and well maintained. Wi-fi internet worked well (though was slow one night when we suspected somebody was heavily downloading). The kitchen is large, with good equipment. The free use of the their industrial washers (though no driers) are a big bonus. Tram #1 drops you two hundred meters from the location, as does bus 108/118 from the train station. Look for the church spire as it is next door to it. The only negative report was that the manager/reception is hard to find at times (but the only time we needed him was to pay for our daily stay anyway).
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk Stayed here in late May of 2005. A friend and I arrived with two other random travelers, late in the evening, without reservations. The staff were gracious although communication was thin. This was the smallest hostel I have ever stayed in and it made for an interesting, intimate setting that more resembled a college dorm than a hotel. It might have been a little bit crowded but it was clean and the bathrooms were fantastic. Breakfast was the usual but there was a fully automated espresso maker that worked great once a native german speaker took the controls. A bizarre rainstorm the second afternoon put everybody in an interesting mood and all the guests returned early with food and beer and booze. About twenty of us (the whole place) gathered in the main lobby and partied our asses off into the wee hours of the morning. The staff came in and cooked up complimentary pierogies and brought a liter of spiced vodka for the occasion. By far the best hostel experience I've ever had.
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk The best hostel in Europe.
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk Truly fab. The location is superb, and everyone is very friendly and helpful. Waldemar is a star.
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk I just spent two weeks traveling in Poland (Gdansk, Warswa, Krakow), and this was my favorite hostel by far! Great location next to the river and downtown. They have free laundry service, free coffee and tea and kitchen, and very friendly and helpful staff. Plus they also offer both cheaper rooms for those who just want to crash/party and upstairs, quieter rooms for us culture-minded folk. Thank you, Waltraud, for a terrific stay in Gdansk!
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk We were at the hostel 24 and 25 febr. It was very good and there were very friendly people.
Baltic Hostel in Gdansk I stayed here in January and I'm pretty sure that this hostel is basically brand new. The location is good — it's on the other side of the tracks from the old town, but it only takes maybe 10 minutes to walk there. Everything in the hostel is clean and new. However, when I was there only one shower was working (which wasn't a problem because my friend and I were the only two people staying there). The "kitchen" consists of a sink, a fridge, kettle, coffee maker and an egg boiler machine. No hotplate or stove. The main common room is big and nice. The man who ran the place was nice, but we only saw him twice — the rest of the time we were left alone in the hostel. The only downside to this hostel is the building it's in. the entry area and staircase you walk up to get to the hostel is disgusting — it has a terrible smell of 40 year old cat pee and who knows what else. No exaggeration. Getting into the hostel became an exercise in holding my breath. But once in the hostel there
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk There's not much that can be said that hasn't been said already, but I'll just reiterate. The freebies of this place were fantastic (though we didn't use the, I think the bikes no have a small fee). The breakfast was a bit small, and there's not really much in the way of a kitchen. The free internet is a huge perk and the computer also provides the lounge with a large variety of good music. The upstairs dorm was perfect, though the showers did tend to run out of hot water after everybody else has used them.
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk Indeed, one of the nicer hostels I've ever stayed at. The owner, Woldemar, is very hospitable and speaks about 5 languages. The only complaint is that the beds (no bunks) are a bit crammed downstairs, and that there are problems with running water as well as hot water in the showers. I was assured, however, that it was unusual. Otherwise, the lovely Lidia of the staff is extremely nice and helpful, and the living area is great for socializing. Great location, practically in the center of Gdansk. Also, free Internet — all for only 10 euros per night. A real gem.
Baltic Hostel in Gdansk The positive things were clean room, bed sheets, and towels; free food (in the fridge, pizza at late night, bread, nice breakfast 'till 11 a.m.); nice people working in a good mood; location (close to the station and ten minutes to the center, walking); free maps of the city with interest points; last but not least the price. The negative things were difficult to find (but locals helped); very small toilets; only two showers (we were there with twenty more people!), that was the reason why we didn't gave four stars; the kitchen is composed of a microwave, a sink, a fridge, and a egg boiler. This hostel is perfect for you if you have an open mind and don't judge the building by the main door (literally).
Przy Targu Rybnym - Hostel Gdansk in Gdansk The worst thing about the hostel was the showers. They are always ice cold. The hot water system is non existant and its not just cold -- it's ice cold showers. We stayed for three days and I never had even a warm shower. The location is good but its also extremely noisy too because we had a room at the front where people were yelling and cars going by. Go early if you want breakfast. Its just bread, jam, eggs, and coffee and it is not restocked. Other than that everything else was good.
