Downhill is a tiny village 13km west of Coleraine with a great beach which is good for surfing if you can stand the water temperature (brrrr).
What a beautiful town! Everyone I met was so friendly. My husband comes from Dungiven. We have been in the States for quite a while, but it was great to visit and meet all the family. I myself am from Glasgow, Scotland.
My ancestors are from Dungiven and it was wonderful to explore my roots.
Dungiven A lovely town, very friendly and full of drinks and drugs, party on!
Derry The city walls and the murals are a must to see. The museum is fantastic and takes a while to go thru it all. The local pubs are very nice but the clubs the younger crowd frequent are a bit on the wild side (I'm an old guy).
Derry City Independent Hostel - Steve's Backpackers in Derry Best hostel I ever stayed at, anywhere in the world. That's tops out of about 30 hostels. Rocking place.
Downhill Hostel in Downhill A beautiful, welcoming place to stay. I planned on staying for only a night, and extended to a week, because it was just too incredible to pass up! It was overall very clean, friendly, and comfortable! I would recommend it to anyone!
Rick's Causeway Coast Hostel in Port Stewart Excellent hostel, very friendly and accommodating. Well equipped kitchen and sitting room. Rick has furnished the place like a home more than a hostel. Brilliant location in the lovely town of Port Stewart.
Flax-Mill Hostel in Dungiven Stayed here in 2004. Was a really fantastic stay in an idyllic hostel in a wonderful place. Very peaceful, amazing beds, wonderful (freshly picked) breakfast. Old fashioned charm. Thoroughly recommend.
Derry City Independent Hostel - Steve's Backpackers in Derry The plan was that I was going to be here for only three weeks, and I lasted five weeks. Steve was great fun (for a Scot) and he has a wonderful fetish for Tin-Tin. Kylie (the Kiwi) was just as good at making people feel at home here in Derry City Independent Hostel and at Steve's Backpackers. I loved it, and thank you for making my time no doubt the best time I had in Ireland. Derry is one of the places to go in Ireland and Steve's and/or the Derry Independent Hostel are the places to stay.
Rick's Causeway Coast Hostel in Port Stewart I stayed in Rick's place about 12 years ago. I loved it because of its lovely atmosphere. Now I am no longer a backpacker anymore but I will be back in Eire in September with my son Oisín and I would love to come back!!
Paddy's Palace Derry in Derry This hostel was very clean and comfortable. The staff were great and friendly. In addition, Stephen was phenomenal!! Don't forget to take his walking tour. Stephen was the best tour guide I had on my Ireland trip. He knows Ireland, its history, and its people and he has a nice sense of humor. I had lot of fun, and I could have listened to him for hours. It was like a master class in Irish history and "the Troubles." In addition, the fact he speaks Irish is a bonus, too. I had fun sharing my little knowledge of the Gaelic language with him. I hope he stays on for many years to come. And next time I come to Ireland I hope to have him as a guide again. Please, please don't change.
Downhill Hostel in Downhill This place was awesome! It's right on the beach, and it's very peaceful. I stayed here for five days because it was so nice. The showers were hot and powerful! The reception is good, and you can really relax! It's a great place for singles and families alike.
Downhill Hostel in Downhill It's been quite a while now since I was here, November 2002, to be precise, but I have nothing but fond memories of this place (and great pictures). It has a lovely setting, tranquil and close to nature. Nice and friendly hosts, too (no, they are not intrusive). It's well worth visiting! The beach is awesome and the dorms are clean and tidy. Indoors or outdoors, I give it full marks!
Downhill Hostel in Downhill I was backpacking through ireland and I was lucky enough to hear about the downhill hostel. It is out of some fantasy of which I have never had the privilege of experiencing untill i came upon that big white house overlooking the ocean.
Flax-Mill Hostel in Dungiven Stayed for two nights in 2002 and best hostel we stayed in in the U.K. by far. inexpensive, cosy and comfortable. Beautiful area, highly recommend it if you're looking for real country hospitality and something different from your average hostel.
Derry City Independent Hostel - Steve's Backpackers in Derry Great hostel, super friendly staff, lots of character, very clean, and hot showers. Without a doubt the best hostel I've stayed in in Europe, it would rank right up there with some of the best from Australia and the South Pacific which are the best that I've seen.
