if you go to Isla Mujeres, you should try to eat on the restaurants by the beach and eat a shrimp cocktail or ceviche! It's delicious. Go to Caracol and Playa Tiburon -- great views!
Hostel El Palomar in Playa del Carmen … I stayed here once and had a really good time. At night we went up on their terrace, where you could look out over the ocean, get a nice breeze, and play cards.
Hostel Playa in Playa del Carmen … Fantastic Spot! Very clean and well-run. It was nice to be a little away from the main drag, but not too far. Conveniently close to a grocery store and cheap internet. Great common area with hammocks, comfy couches, and a roof to chill out on.

Chac Mool Hostel in Cancun … I had so much fun at this hostel! The owners were great and always attentive. Everything is nearby and they have the best terrace to hang out and chat with others.
Chac Mool Hostel in Cancun … I stayed at several hostels and Chac Mool was my favorite! Hi to all the cool people!! What a family atmosphere (young family — even the 45 year-olds were cool)!! And it was safe! (With cute guys.)
Hostal Haina in Cancun … I stayed here for two weeks a years ago. Haina was one of the best hostel that I ever stayed. Staff are family-oriented, super friendly, kind people. Room (including linen) kept clean, and they give a small soap and towel and blanket if you want. Location is pretty good -- five-minute walk to restaurant or supermarket or park, and ten minutes to bus terminal. and they have a terrace (you can hang your laundry here), and I like the beautiful garden with blooming colorful flowers. I would be back to Haina when I visit Cancun!
Hostel Playa in Playa del Carmen … Come here and you'll never want to leave. This place is awesome. It has a great meeting area, with sofas, beds, hammocks, tv, tables, chairs, a rooftop, a nice kitchen, great rooms, clean bathrooms, and most important, great people.
Soberanis Hostel in Cancun … This hostel has clean, nice showers. It's close to nightlife, good food and has a lively outdoor bar. The staff are friendly; practice your Spanish. People at the airport would not tell me where the bus stop was located. It is across the street from the main terminal between Executive and Budget car rental. It costs 40 pesos or $5 US.
Chac Mool Hostel in Cancun … I had the time of my life here! The hospitality was GREAT! The BEST music in the city on the weekend! I will be back....Thanks for making it special (E)......not to forget the Chef that made the BEST Breakfast ever......Habenero's are HOT! But worth the time!!

Hostel Playa in Playa del Carmen … I spent a few days at Hostel Playa and would have loved to stay a few more weeks or even months. Amazing atmosphere, great people working there, and lots of fun! I'd come back anytime and can only recommend to visit Mario and his people when you visit Playa del Carmen!
