HI - Guadalajara - Hostel De María in Guadalajara … This was my first experience with a Hostel. The place was incredible, I highly recommend it. The staff are very freindly and the owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Guadalajara that is central, clean, and friendly, I urge all to check out Hostel de Maria! You won't regret it.
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel De María in Guadalajara … One of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed at. Clean, secure, and great ambiance, and at US$12 (with HI card) one of the best bargains. Only drawback I could find was you have to shower before noon. The free breakfast was also a huge plus.
Casa Vilasanta in Guadalajara … Vilasanta is an extremely nice place, especially when compared with the other posadas in Guadalajara. They give you your own key to the front door so that there is no curfew. The staff are friendly and the rooms are cleaned daily. Many of the people staying here are students learning Spanish at the IMAC School or people studying to be TEFL teachers. The constant influx of students makes for a fun and interesting environment.
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel De María in Guadalajara … I have stayed in a few different places in Guadalajara and this is the best place I have stayed. I spent two weeks here and had a great time. It is in a quiet part of the historical center of the city and I was able to walk to the Cathedral, many museums, traditional markets, etc. The hostel is super clean, the staff are very helpful and it has a great airy kitchen open to their courtyard. If this wasn't enough, the front door of the hostel opens up onto a park. Have fun!!!
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel De María in Guadalajara … I stayed at Hostal de Maria for almost a week at the beginning of 2008 and can only confirm the positive comments. The rooms are great and clean, and so are the bathrooms. The breakfast includes orange juice, cereals, toast. The staff is very easy-going and nice, they even helped me to find a room in Guadalajara. You can easily walk to the city. Walmart, Sears, and a couple smaller stores are close by. If you need a place to stay at in Guadalajara, go there, you won't regret it!
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel Guadalajara in Guadalajara … This is certainly the funniest and most active hostel I have ever been. I was there for only two days and had the most entertaining time ever in a hostel. I got to know a lot of people from all over the world. The administration organizes events and tours every single day. I took the one to the town of Tequila and it was absolutely great. I also went with some guys and girls to a bar; they made a reservation for all of us at no extra charge. Finally, a visit to the Mexican Wrestling Arena. In addition, it has the best location in Guadalajara. The breakfast is not that good, but it is ok.
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel De María in Guadalajara … Stayed here for a week in late Oct'05. One of the nicest, most laid-back I've ever been to. Comfortable, and friendly staff.
Casa Iguana in Yelapa … I recently spent two nights at Casa Iguana, which has two bungalows for parties of two or more and one tent for one. The Casa is on the outskirts of town — a 5-minute hike up the hill. So it's a low-cost place to stay. It's also quite pleasant. Brad is from California and his wife, Veronica, grew up in Yelapa. They have four kids ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old, and they cordially welcome guests to make themselves at home in their open-air household and kitchen. (The toilet and shower are also open-air but private.) There are some fine restaurants nearby, which Brad can identify for you. Yelapa is a picturesque and traditional small Mexican town — lots of kids, dogs, roosters, and horses. It's had electricity for only three years. There is no bank, and credit cards aren't much use there. So bring cash. The beaches are scenic and the ocean unpolluted (unlike expensive Puerto Vallarta). So all in all, I rate Yelapa and Casa Iguana as a fun, convenient (to PV); interesting and…
Hospedarte Hostel in Guadalajara … Very good time here, the hostel was nicer than I thought a hostel could be, and the guys are very helpful!
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel Guadalajara in Guadalajara … Excellent location, clean, and friendly. Attracts international crowd, and hostel staff is very helpful. Dorm rooms are a bit snug, but other than that, this is a great place to stay while in Guadalajara.
HI - Guadalajara - Hostel Guadalajara in Guadalajara … I wish they wouldnt allow alcohol (makes for a bit more noise at night) but the staff spoke english/spanish all three shifts and couldnt have worked any harder at being helpful and friendly to me. (My first time alone in Mexico.) Breakfast was cold cereal and toast, coffee, and spread for toast. if you ate it you didnt have to eat for a few hours into the day -- saved money. it was adequate and prompt. served for several hours too. I stayed almost two weeks recently (March 2007) and would do so again (plan to this winter). The location is great! Internet and long distance cafe two doors down and money changers right next door. Huge Historic Cathedral, Humongous Shopping Center and plazas as well as McDonalds and 7/11s a few blocks away! I loved it!
Oasis Hostel in Puerto Vallarta … I'm posting this from the hostel. The facilities are very well kept, and the family that runs the hostel lives in the same building so they keep the place orderly as they would their own home. The location at first glance seems inconvenient -- being separated from the tourist zone by tunnel -- but the distance to the tunnel is maybe a half-kilometer from the building and the tunnel itself is barely a block long, so the bus ride from the hotel to the edge of the tourist area is literally two minutes. Buses from the hostel to downtown and the airport leave every five minutes between about 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The free internet, free sheets, and free breakfast are all true -- the internet is a cable high speed connection, and the breakfast is orange juice plus four slices of toast. Overall, the staff are very accommodating and go out of their way to help guests.
