I have been going to Palenque since 1971. Find a comfortable spot and melt into the air.
San Cristobal de las Casas is such an amazing town filled with bright colors, friendly people, and a variety of music. December couldn't have been a better time to visit considering all of the holiday festivities. It is definitely worth time spent traveling. Don't miss this beautiful oasis.
San Cristobal de las Casas … San Cristobal is beautiful.
San Cristobal de las Casas … San Cristobal is the most magical destination in mexico. The nature alone is enough to seduce you, but on top of it, you will meet the most wonderful, humble people, beautiful (and very affordable) artesenias (crafts), delicious food, amazing architecture, and overall tranquility. If you are fed up with the "Cancun" travel scene, visit San Cristobal, you are in for a special treat.
Maya Bell in Palenque … I've stayed twice. You should know that they also have small rooms available with beds, fans, and screened windows. Some with private baths, even. It is a lovely place and people of many nationalities stay. The food was wonderful during my visits, and the massages were lovely too, and not terribly expensive. Just remember -- if you need to get back to town you really must plan to leave by 4 to 5 p.m. It's very difficult to get a ride back to town otherwise, as the Maya Bell is located very far down a secluded road that takes you to Palenque. Seldom will even a taxi venture down this road in the evening hours. Have a wonderful time!
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … Even though i would rate it 4 stars (good) for amenities, I definitely would rate it 5 stars for the excellent atmosphere. I advise everyone to experience it!
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … If there were more than five stars I would add as many as I can... check it out dude!!!
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … Oh, I love this place. I just left the best restaurant-hostel on the f***ing planet. The Italian food is great there (just ask Tony to cook for you) and the place is unbelievable. Check it out mates!
Hostel Las Palomas in San Cristobal de las Casas … This was an epic hostel. We arrived at night and were greeted by the friendly family that runs the place. They set us up with a map of town and a list of things to visit. The place was immaculately clean with a really large open courtyard where you could read or get on their Wi-Fi internet. They also have a little common room with a TV. The rooms remind you of being in a mountain cabin and are very basic but comfortable. The kitchen is very nice, and there is free toast and coffee in the morning. I parked my car on the street outside at night and had no problems. The location is excellent as well being about a five-minute walk from the absolute center of town. Most of all, the staff were really nice and hard working and cool. If you go to Mexico, you have to go to San Cristobal de las Casas, and you have to stay at Hostel las Palomas. My buddy and I have driven from San Francisco, California, down through Guatemala, and this hostel has been the highlight of our trip.
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … It's true! Heaven is a place on earth, Casa Babylon.
Maya Bell in Palenque … this is the right place to relax and forget your problems. hang yourself on a hammock, take it easy, and enjoy the calm and tranquility of this place. there is also a swimming pool to cool off, if you are not too lazy to stand up from your hammock. you can choose between palapa (roof in which you put your hammock), camping with your own tent, or cabana with real bed, but my choice is palapa for sure! i met very good people here and is a place i'll never forget!
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … This is the only place to be in San Cristobal. It has awesome people.
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … Lots of parties!
Casa Babylon in San Cristobal de las Casas … If there is a place travelers should check out in this wonderful town it is Babylon, dude!!! Fun, night movies and Tony and his girlfriend's Italian food were amazing (try their lasagna... just do it). Thanks again and see you next year P.s. To get there just download the map on their Web site and enjoy.
Maya Bell in Palenque … Close to the ruins. Lots of Euro Hippies. nice pool area. I took a backpack and tent. when the rains got really strong I bailed out to one of the little rooms. A tent site is 30 pesos per day ($3), the clean rooms are 300 pesos a day. You will meet lots of cool people if you go with a tent or hammock. No police shakedowns or druglord gangs, which makes it a great destination these days.
Maya Bell in Palenque … I have camped in the Mayabel several times over the years and have always been transported to another time. The campground is inside the park and surrounded by ruins, deep jungle and spectacular cascading falls. The autumn is always best thanks to the rain. The camp is clean and secure with good bathrooms and showers, and a good palapa restaurant which is very cheap. There's usually some acoustic instruments being played and all around the peaceful place. Howler monkeys and tucans amongst other critters will be regular visitors.
