Kyoto Backpackers House in Kyoto … this is a very nice and decent hotel. the owners are very friendly and caring. it is very quiet and very clean. plus it is cheap. i would definitely recommend this place to everyone.
Nishijin Kanouya in Kyoto … Ok, this hostel is difficult to find at the first time. But if you arrive, you can call and the manager will take you from the bus station. What a service. And it is like this all the time. If you have got any question, Sayoko will try to answer. It is really great. The hostel is small and friendly, the rooms are clean, and the living room is warm. And because of the rooms are cold, in each bed is an electric blanket. I love them. The house itself is old and has got a really nice atmosphere. If you want sightseeing in Kyoto you can rent a bike, it is cheap and very good. Every bike is in perfect condition and Kyoto is great for cycling. In one word, this hostel is perfect. When I return to Kyoto I will stay there again, for sure. And, no I do not work there, I am just a german girl who really enjoyed the time in this hostel in Kyoto.
Kyoto Utano Youth Hostel in Kyoto … I stayed in this place a few years ago, and it was great! It's out of the way, but it's beautiful! Bamboo forest surrounds this place and you can really commune with nature here. Their shampoo and soap is so great! It comes out in a foam and keeps me more moisturized than anything I can find in the US. I really liked it at this hostel, and I hope to visit it again someday.
J-Hoppers Kyoto Guest House in Kyoto … Aki speaks good English and is a really nice guy who has travelled extensively himself. Surroundings are neat and clean with excellent facilities. Location is good. Thoroughly recommended.
Tour Club Kyoto in Kyoto … I find that this hostel is very excellent and the service and cleaniness is wonderful. You can't imagine that you can find such a wonderful and cheap place to stay in Japan, which is an expensive country. But, some of the staff members are not very friendly. Fortunately, only some, others are very helpful and nice and friendly. I highly recommend my web friends to stay.
Hostel TOMATO Guest House in Kyoto … The location of this hostel cannot be beat. It is blocks away from Kizomizu temple, Pontocho street, the river, and Gion. The staff is very friendly. I liked the free internet and the bicycle rentals (500 yen/day!). Kyoto is great for biking, so this made a big difference for me. I stayed in one of the four person female dormitories, which was fine -- there is air conditioning, but the bathroom is not clean and there were some bugs (spiders and a cockroach). The shower is across the street but otherwise okay. The place is a very good deal for the cheap price, I think, as long as you are not too picky about how clean the bathroom is.
Kyoto Guesthouse Budget Inn in Kyoto … We stayed here for four nights when we were in Kyoto. The map they give you is a little difficult, we got a bit lost but I think it was our fault. The hostel is on a side street which is a one-lane and looks a bit like an alley. But it is a very safe area, we didn't have any problems and didn't feel any unease while we were walking there after dark (10 p.m. to midnight). The place is a few blocks from Kyoto station which is very convenient, and there is an elevator so you don't have to haul your luggage up narrow steps. They had a washer/dryer but we didn't use it. They have 100 yen/fifteen minutes internet which was pretty decently priced since I didn't see any internet cafes nearby (wasn't looking for any though) and they had free wireless internet so basically you just pay for the electricity to use their computer. We booked a six-person female dorm but we had guys in the room every night we were there which was a little annoying since one guy snored really loudly. Each dorm has…
Backpackers Hostel K's House Kyoto in Kyoto … My husband and I stayed here in December 2004 and, having just come from cramped, crowded Tokyo, we were bowled over by how spacious the whole place was, considering it was a hostel. The entire building was clean, light and airy. The hostel was run by a young, helpful, and efficient staff, giving the place the vibe of a hip but low-key college hangout. It had an eclectic mix of Asian and Western music playing in the lobby, coffee brewing in the kitchen and an easy banter in various languages in the mornings and evenings. We booked a private room, which was clean, spacious and bright, but it could've used a mirror and another table besides the nightstand. The common bathrooms were also clean. (Towels were not provided but they can be rented for a small fee.) But we weren't too fond of the showerheads, which dispensed water so long as you pressed down on a spring-loaded lever. If you released the lever, it would pop right back up and turn off the water. There must be a technique to…
Hostel Kyotokko - Kyoto Cheapest Inn in Kyoto … It's not really the cheapest inn and it's not worth the money. My friends and I arrived there very late after traveling all day. We were tired and wanted to sleep. We had previously booked the room. Upon arriving, they couldn't find our information (which was scary because I gave my credit card over the phone), and they also informed us that we were going to have to sleep in the annex building, which was a twelve-minute walk. We're tired, hungry, and have to walk some more. Not a good combo. We arrive at the very hard to find annex building to discover that the elevator (which doesn't seem so stable) will only fit two people --barely (and we're all thin, mind you). Someone greeted us at the door and led us to the bunk beds, which we expected, but didn't show us anything else. We found the moldy showers and dirty toilets on our own. Everything was co-ed, which was to be expected. The sinks were very clean, though, and there was a more counterspace than I'd seen in Japanese hostels…
Guest House Bola-Bola in Kyoto … when I first arrived there, I was kind of happy since there was no space in Kyoto. The prices are ok, and the private room is actually big. One piece of advice, never smell the sheets! I did this once and after that i just wanted to avoid sleeping, I think they never wash them! No free internet, no internet for more than fifteen minutes, oh and the bathroom is like a bunker. The young guy at the reception is quite helpful, and the owner is just there. Kyoto's weather is really crazy, raining all day and kind of hot on summer. You just can't leave your bags in the hostel, so if you take the night train to Tokyo good luck with the rain! Bola Bola doesn' t care much about it. Once again, the young japanese guy with fluent english gets ten out of ten, the rest including owner and hostel -- failed!
Kyoto Globetrotters Hostel in Kyoto … This is not a hostel. Its someone's private house that he has crammed full of bunks without the adequate facilities to cater for international backpackers. It is difficult to know exactly where to begin to describe how horrible our stay was, and the disgusting service we were given. Kyoto Globetrotters Hostel and Osaka Downtown Hostel and Olivers International Hostel are all run by the same person -- expect the same standard of service in each. There are no positives. Our experience is no exception! Oliver has a smile on his face when you first arrive, and a seemingly welcome persona -- this is a facade! Oliver will only be polite until you hand over your yen. After this, the service slips to a disgusting level. He offers no help, assistance with the area, guidance, or friendly advice. He prefers to remain out of the way and out of the building. There are times when there is actually no one running the hostel and all you have are a series of hastily written directions to follow…
Uno House in Kyoto … The worst thing I had even experience in Kyoto. The place is dirty, crowed with wierd smell. The rooms haven't got beds but futon which is dirty and seems like never been clean up.The batheroom is dirty and not enough (just 3 bathrroom and 2 toilet). The owner's not quite friendly, and might look at you with the strange eyes. Fortunately, I went their with my boyfriend so I didn't noticed that. But 2 girls from Singapore who I met there said that thier felt his creepy's eye. So be careful girls, you don't want to stay there alone. Most of all, find something else.
