Momoiwaso in Rebun … I went here with a school trip and was not warned ahead of time about the huge greeting we would be getting. When the van pulled up inches to the front door they swung it open to have the entire staff with drums and various other loud instruments screaming welcome in Japanese. The dinner was nice but what topped it off was one of the employees standing on the roof with the Japanese flag "saying goodbye to the day" as they said. It was beautiful. After dark if you look over the water you see dozens of lights from squid fishing boats (at least during Sept, when I went). That and there's also a big ol rock in the water called "cat rock" and you'll have to see it yourself to know why. The water was a bit chilly when i went but be warned for women swimmers, i was in board-shorts and a bikini top when i walked back into the hostel after a swim and the hostess ran up asking me to cover. So just because it's on the beach dont expect to be able to walk around in your swimsuits. Other than…
Sapporo Inn NADA in Sapporo … I stayed there this past week, and recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive play to stay in the Susukino. We could have rented bikes, but ended up walking everywhere. Nothing was out of reach by foot. The owner was very friendly and helpful and he spoke very good English. It's not a social hostel, just somewhere to sleep and shower. No need to hang out there, when there are four thousand licensed bars/clubs/restaurants within ten minutes' walk. I would definitely stay there on my next trip to Sapporo.
HI - Sapporo - Sapporo House YH Hostel in Sapporo … I came to Sapporo really hoping for a decent place to stay sleeping outside train stations for the last couple nights in the cold, however, my expectations were not met. this hostel has to be the definition of creepy, there were holes punched in the walls, the showers happened to be in the basement where everything was lit by the exit signs, no one was there, everything had a funny smell, and it was right near the train tracks so every time a train went by it was quite loud. The only thing it really has going for it is that it is very close to Sapporo station. Believe me, I hate giving reviews like this, and I have been to a lot of hostels, but this place was just weird.
HI - Sapporo - Sapporo House YH Hostel in Sapporo … A very bad and unfriendly YH. Really the opposite from all my other Japan experiences. Staff is unwilling to help you with anything/not interested/not clean.
Hotel Kawanami in Hokkaidō … Very good hotel. We were there in July. The staff is lovely, and the place very nice. After a bicylcle ride (they rent bicycle) to the volcanos or around the lake, relaxing in the onsen is a great moment.
Hotel Kawanami in Hokkaidō … We visited Hotel Kawanami in June and a had a wonderful stay. The staff are lovely, and the manager and his wife speak English. They went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay in Toyako. They helped organise buses, told us all about the history of the area, and even invited us to spend time with their family. The hotel rooms were really nice and clean, with a nice view of the lake. We were able to watch the fireworks at the lake in the comfort of our own room. The onsen was also very nice and relaxing. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone interested in getting away from the hectic cities in Japan.
Momoiwaso in Rebun … There is nothing in the world that can prepare you for what a stay at Momoiwaso is like. You certainly need to have a lot of enthusiasm and energy to take this place on, but you will be rewarded with an unforgettable and incomparable Japanese experience on a gorgeous island at Japan's northernmost…
HI - Daisetsu-zan Shirakabaso YH Hostel in Kamikawa-gun … One can be forgiven for thinking Daisetsuzan Shirakabaso is the wrong place. This large, beautiful, wood-paneled building with an attatched log cabin is an extremely nice and relaxing hostel, and a great place to base yourself for hikes in Daisetsuzan and to Asahi Mountain. The bus from the…
Wakkanai Moshiripa Hostel in Wakkanai-shi … Wakkanai Moshiripa Hostel, a relaxing, middle-sized hostel, is located a five-minute walk from the train/bus station and about the same distance from the ferry quay. Check in is only until eight p.m. so make sure to get there in time or make arrangements with the staff. Additionally there is a…
HI - Sapporo - Sapporo House YH Hostel in Sapporo … Sapporo House Hostel is in an extremely convenient location, a mere five minute walk from Sapporo Station and two blocks from the botanical garden. Exit the station's north gate and turn left, or simply exit West through the shopping center, and it's straight ahead. The reception is very polite…
Time Peace Apartment Hostel in Sapporo … Time Peace Apartment (which is really a hostel) is a welcome addition to the Sapporo hostel community in a quiet area just off of the Toho subway line. The hostel is owned and operated by Jin, who opened for business in Fall 2008. The Location Time Peace Apartment is close to Susukino, the…
