Kashiwaya Ryokan in Nakanojo … I stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan for one night in October 2005. I was travelling by myself and really enjoyed the peace, tranquility, and natural beauty of the Nakanojo and Shima Onsen area. The ryokan was wonderful. I recommend asking for a room on the second floor across the hall from the private baths. It was easy for me to look out my door and see which (if any) of the private baths were available. Kashiwaya Ryokan in Nakanojo … This was our first onsen ryokan experience and it was wonderful. We stayed in the least expensive room for two people, without a private bath. The three different family open air baths were great (it was nice to have the private baths at first since we had never been to an onsen before). The Japanese dinner was shabu-shabu and was delicious, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of shops and restaurants and nature walks around the rest of the onsen area to enjoy. The price seemed very inexpensive for an onsen ryokan, from what I've seen online at least; only about US $100 for the night for both of us without dinner (there are plenty of noodle and sushi shops to get food at elsewhere) and the night we had dinner, it was only about US $35 each.
HI - Kusatsu - Kusatsu-kogen YH Hostel in Agatsuma-gun … HI - Kusatsu - Kusatsu-kogen YH Hostel seems to be a converted school that was never really finished in terms of painting the bare concrete walls. In the three-story building with hallways and large rooms and a cafeteria-style dining area, you definitely feel as though you're back in elementary…
