International Hostel Khaosan Fukuoka in Fukuoka … I stayed here between touring southern Kyushu and leaving via Fukuoka airport for Osaka. This hostel was well located for me to get to the airport (about an eight-minute walk to the closest metro stop, which is only one stop away from the airport), however not so well located if you're sightseeing in Fukuoka -- it is a good fifteen-minute walk from Hakata station. The rooms and beds were clean, and the staff friendly and informative (they recommended a great ramen restaurant around the corner). The common areas were well set out and the kitchen had plenty of utensils to use. Enjoyed my stay one night here.
International Hostel Khaosan Fukuoka in Fukuoka … Staff are rude to the people.
International Hostel Khaosan Fukuoka in Fukuoka … Beware of this hostel.
Japanese Ryokan Kashima Honkan in Fukuoka … It's a Ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn as opposed to a hostel. Accommodation is in private rooms in which there are futons on tatami mats to sleep on -- firm but very comfortable and good for your back! The old rustic atmosphere is what adds to the charm here. The owners are extremely friendly and pleasant, and the place is extremely clean. One thing that might put some people off is the traditional Japanese shared showers and baths that are typical of this kind of establishment. You're supplied with your own yukata (Japanese dressing gown or bathrobe) in your room. And this place is not completely stuck in the nineteenth century -- there's free, high-speed wireless internet in the reception area! The location is also very good -- only a few minutes walk from the both Fukuoka city centre and the main rail station.
