I visited Cong on my second Irish visit in 1998. I now plan another visit in 2005 with my wife and another couple.
Old Mill Holiday Hostel in Westport A very nice and clean hostel. The staff was very helpful. Nice furnishings and details. The kitchen was well kept and clean. Although it would need some more touch-ups to catch up with the nice style of the hostel. Overall, one of the best I have seen in Ireland.
Cong Hostel & Caravan & Camping Park in Cong I stayed one night in early August 2008. I was happy with the accommodations. The self-catering kitchen and dining area were clean and surprisingly large, and the grounds offered the chance for sunshine and fresh air. The staff was friendly, courteous, and well-informed about the area, and they provided me with some special assistance in making last minute travel arrangements. I would stay there again.
Valley House Holiday Hostel in Achill Island Stayed here a few months back July 2008. Have to say it was one of the best weekends ive had in a long time. From the moment we arrived at the hostel we were made to feel very welcome by the barman Pat at the time. As soon as we arrived we headed for the bar (as you do). The valley has a great homey atmosphere with the fire light for most of the day and it's just very cosy. At night they have two or three people who play traditional Irish music, which I personally thought was the best thing about the hostel and something which I looked forward to every night, also one of the musicians was a fantastic guitar player and just in general a really down to earth guy. The dorms in the hostel were a bit cold at night time but if you're coming in late at night after having a few jars you generally forget about being cold. Achill Island has so many activities and places to visit that the Valley is in the perfect spot to suit everyone's needs. All in all a fantastic hostel and highly
Kilcommon Lodge Hostel in Belmullet Wonderful! Off the beaten path, away from the crowds of tourists, this place is scenic, peaceful, and magical. The owners are very kind and full of hospitality. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful!
Kilcommon Lodge Hostel in Belmullet A place to forget what ever you wanted to see next. Friendly, warm atmoshere and delicious meals.
Cong Hostel & Caravan & Camping Park in Cong Clean, comfortable, and friendly, with a very pleasant walk into town. We can't wait to go back!
Abbeywood in Westport Easily better than the Old Mill, Abbeywood is a very inviting, "homey" hostel with an absolute wonder of an owner. She was an absolute sweetheart to everyone, made fresh bread every night for breakfast in the morning, and helped me and my sister get around town, organize taxis, trains. Forget the Old MIll Hostel and it's dungeon-like atmosphere, the Abbeywood is one of the best hostels around thanks to a warm, inviting glow, and a wonderful owner. 100% recommend to anyone staying in Westport. Ask the locals for directions, as it's a few blocks from the town centre and tucked away from the road a bit. For a marker, it's right next to Holy Trinity Church, if you follow Bridge Street across the river from the city centre.
Abbeywood in Westport Forget the other hostels, go here – you'll see the difference. We can actually have a good rest in this hostel.
Abbeywood in Westport A pleasure to stay at. Nothing more to say really. Well I lie, there is loads to say but not enough time to say it. The Abbeywood was in a past life home to some Christian Brothers that taught in the area. Susan the new owner has transformed this building into a place that anyone would be glad to stay in. This place has character and when I say character I don't mean broken down shower and ducks running around the dinning room character. Far from it, this hostel is very well equiped but it also has a relaxing feel to it. Susan and Neil, the two people\staff that I met during my stay were great. Friendly, approachable and the kind of people that I would gladly go to the pub with for a pint. Fact is, we did. There are other places to stay in the area, all of which are up to scratch but in my opinion. The Abbeywood has something special, maybe it's the fact that its more personal than the usual "thanks for your money, goodnight" approach. It's more along the lines of "thanks for
Abbeywood in Westport Lovely place to stay, super close to everything... was very clean and the facilities were cool... super good surfing!
Old Mill Holiday Hostel in Westport Great hostel. It's very well located, centric, and it feels cozy and really nice. It's clean, has a good atmosphere and a huge kitchen. There's no curfew. You get a security number to open the main door and you can get back whenever you want. If you are travelling to Wesport, you MUST stay here. Highly recommended.
Abbeywood in Westport A great place to stay close to the centre of Westport. Clean, warm and welcoming, we cannot recommend it highly enough. We really liked the freshly baked bread and coffee for breakfast every day!
