It's a great city, but better not to visit at Christmastime because everything's closed -- even pubs! And Dublin without pubs is not the same. It's a funny city and the Irish are the kindest people I've ever met. Don't miss visit Temple Bar, and if you have time then take a bus to Howth Village and see its cliffs and its lighthouse. It's absolutely fantastic!
What a lovely stay it was! Though I was born in Paris and live in the Alps, I found Dublin city as one of the most rocking ever. People simply go there on drinking, talking and get laid purposes...
I loved Ireland, but especially Dublin!
I have not only visited Dublin but I've lived there for a year. And all I can say is: It's a great city! Yes, it is a bit more expensive than other European metropolitan areas, but at the same time you won't find nicer people, more fun and better accommodation anywhere else in the world. The Irish are nice folks; friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. The crime rate isn't higher as in Berlin or in London; just use your common sense and you'll be fine. And the art collections belong to the best preserved exhibitions on the planet. They may not be large, but they are incredibly valuable for any connoisseur. Plan ahead, make sure to have list of places to go, things to do and landmarks to visit and it will be a fantastic trip!
Dun Laoghaire is great, a small town 20 minutes from the big town with shopping and a 10 minute walk along the sea to a small beach. Library, pubs, nightlife, good fast food and plenty of possibillities for a traditional Irish music session in the area. Don't miss the village Dalkey with nice pubs and the brilliant view from Killiney Hill!
Citi Hostel in Dublin … Seriously, where else will you find a super clean and cheap place to stay with a TV in each room? This hostel has a really nice staff, well-equipped kitchen and dining room, and it's in a great location. I highly recommend this hostel!
Marina House Hostel in Dun Laoghaire … The most enjoyable stay I have had in Dublin. But there are no small rooms.
Abbey Court in Dublin … I had a lovely stay here altogether. The place was clean and rather quiet. The staff were quite great about directing a traveler where to go about in Dublin. It's in a perfect location. It's about a three-minute walk across the river to the Temple Bar area, but you don't have to sleep surrounded by the noise. I would definitely stay here again.
Chelsea Accommodation Hostel in Dublin … Absolutely marvelous! Cheap and safe, no junkies, which is rare in Dublin. Not very clean - true, but if you like rock 'n' roll people and want to have fun, you just have to go there. Very friendly staff, nobody gives you hard time, flexible rules, open 24 hrs. Reminds a big squat. Enjoy!
Globetrotters Dublin Hostel in Dublin … This rates as one of my favorites. It was really close to the bus station, free breakfast, and very cozy beds with little nightlights.
Goin' My Way in Dublin … Terrible name, hard to find (a tiny stairway ending up in a busy street) but well worth the search! Prices beat that of most of Dublin (hostels advertising a 10 euro price and asking 25 euros minimum seems standard in Dublin. Goin' My Way seems to do a 15 euro fixed fare all season). Rooms are clean and spacious. Not many showers but they're good and clean. Really friendly management. Promises a clean bed, clean showers and nothing else, delivers exactly that. Located in the middle of Dublin (north bank), on a really short walk from just about anywhere.
Jacob's Inn Dublin in Dublin … Not a wise-guy in sight! Beats that crummy hostel in Naples I visited last year. They even had a space for my Lexus. And the girls! Wish you were here Tony!
Avalon House in Dublin … I visted this hostel over christmas and thought it was great, if we ever get back to Ireland again I would stay here
Four Courts Hostel in Dublin … Friendly staff, central location, and a really cool and comfortable environment make this a safe bet when choosing where to stay in Dublin. Mixed dorms are an added bonus, all manner of shenanigans can happen. :)
Shining Hostel in Dublin … My friend, Anna, and I came to Ireland for the first time last fall, and we were really quite timid about being in a completely foreign place, with no idea what to do. Luckily, someone referred us to the Rainbow Hostel, and we at least had a place to stay. But it was a lot more than just a place to stay. We couldn't have possibly asked for a better experience. The intimate size of this hostel made it so much easier to get acquainted with people who knew their way around, and they had some really good tips for us (not to mention, we made new friends). The facility itself was very clean and bright. The staff were all godsends. Thank you, thank you. And the other visitors were great, too. As for Anna and me, we plan on coming back as soon as we can afford it, and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Thank you for an unforgettable time.
Barnacles Temple Bar House Hostel in Dublin … I stayed at this hostel last year with a friend. It was so nice, right in the centre of the city close to all the bars and shops. The staff were really helpful and told us about all the best pubs and clubs to go to. The rooms are all en-suite and you get a free breakfast. I'd definitely recommend going here!!
Paddy's Palace Dublin in Dublin … Best hostel and welcome we have had in all our travels. Small enough to make you feel like a friend not just a guest and really really clean. Location, security and stahh all top marks.
