Dun Laoghaire is great, a small town 20 minutes from the big town with shopping and a 10 minute walk along the sea to a small beach. Library, pubs, nightlife, good fast food and plenty of possibillities for a traditional Irish music session in the area. Don't miss the village Dalkey with nice pubs and the brilliant view from Killiney Hill!
I have not only visited Dublin but I've lived there for a year. And all I can say is: It's a great city! Yes, it is a bit more expensive than other European metropolitan areas, but at the same time you won't find nicer people, more fun and better accommodation anywhere else in the world. The Irish are nice folks; friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. The crime rate isn't higher as in Berlin or in London; just use your common sense and you'll be fine. And the art collections belong to the best preserved exhibitions on the planet. They may not be large, but they are incredibly valuable for any connoisseur. Plan ahead, make sure to have list of places to go, things to do and landmarks to visit and it will be a fantastic trip!
I loved Ireland, but especially Dublin!
What a lovely stay it was! Though I was born in Paris and live in the Alps, I found Dublin city as one of the most rocking ever. People simply go there on drinking, talking and get laid purposes...
Globetrotters Hostel in Dublin … This hostel was amazing, with comfortable beds, although a bit cramped. Very clean and very safe/security conscious. There was no lockout, which was nice, and breakfast was awesome, whatever you can think of, and as much as you want! I'd definitely stay here again. Staff friendly were enough, and there's free Internet. The kitchen was very, very small.
Barnacles Temple Bar House Hostel in Dublin … I stayed here the first week in March. I had an absolutely wonderful time. The evening staff is by far the most helpful, although I am not knocking the morning staff; they were great, too. I stayed in a 12-bed dorm and met quite a few people. The room was clean, the bathroom clean. You cannot beat the location right in the center of Temple Bar. Cross the Liffey and you can get any tour bus you little heart desires!! It was my first time in Ireland, actually the first time outside of the U.S., and I absolutely loved it!! I would definitely go there again.
Jacob's Inn Dublin in Dublin … I stayed here in 1999. It was fantastic and I would highly recommend it to any traveller. And I thought this type of accommodation was just for young travellers.
Abbey Court in Dublin … I had a lovely stay here altogether. The place was clean and rather quiet. The staff were quite great about directing a traveler where to go about in Dublin. It's in a perfect location. It's about a three-minute walk across the river to the Temple Bar area, but you don't have to sleep surrounded by the noise. I would definitely stay here again.
Kinlay House Dublin in Dublin … I found this hostel clean, the staff were friendly and the location is great. Good value for money in an expensive city like Dublin. The best thing about this hostel is that Haggis bus tours start from here, and you get a discount on accommodation if you're going on one of the tours.
Abbey Court in Dublin … Cant complain about Abbey Court at all. The place was really clean, the staff were really helpfull and friendly and it was extremely good value for money. You couldn't ask to be in a better location either. Will certainly stay there again if I go back to Dublin.
City Manor Hostel in Dublin … Weekend summer rate twenty euro/fifteen during the week. They also have eighty euro rooms for a week. I arrived in Dublin on a Saturday, could not find a hostel. I was on Gardiner Street and went to each hostel. City Manor had a bed. Yes it is true the hostel is dirty, there are lots of drunks, trash, and yucky floors. However the people there were great. I met tons of people from all over and had the best time ever. This was the best hosteling experience ever. Cooking in the kitchen was a joy. It was great that the shower in the women's dorm worked so I had a hot shower each night. If you're looking for low budget with great people and good stories visit City Manor and say hello to my friends.
Four Courts Hostel in Dublin … i stayed here twice, once for a month and the other for three weeks. love the place, but it is what you make it. like any hostel, the more people you talk to the more fun it is and this is so true of four courts. the first time i stayed there it was fine and i would have recommended it to people but i didnt love it. the second time i spoke to anyone and everyone and it was sooo much fun and i met so many fantastic people. also the staff are fab, have a chat with them! kitchen is really well equiped and easy to use. only complaint there really needs to be another fridge! longterm rates are also great, and include free laundry each week! i strongly recommend this place to anyone thinking about or planning on going to dublin!
Litton Lane Hostel in Dublin … After travelling around Europe my last stop was Dublin and Litton Lane Hostel. I have to say that the staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble for them. The hostel itself was clean, comfortable and right in the heart of Dublin. I made some good friends with other guests that were staying and I plan to go back next summer!
Citi Hostel in Dublin … I visited this hostel for 17 days and it is actually the best place to live in Dublin.
Abbey Court in Dublin … This place was phenomenal! Truly one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. Perfect location -- in the center of city and on the river. Staff friendly and helpful, fantastic free breakfast in restaurant next door. The rooms were adorable, clean, quiet (and colorful and decorated). Very social -- the common rooms are enormous, there is one for smoking and one that is non smoking. And there are always people hanging out on the couches, tables, etc. Kitchen too, chill people. The only downside is that you have to pay for internet, but we just went to one of the many internet cafes all over the city. There is one across the river from Abbey Hostel called Chill Out Cafe -- fabulous and cheap. Anyhow, this hostel was everything you could ask for -- cheap, clean, centrally located, fun. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Abbey rocks.
Jacob's Inn Dublin in Dublin … Spent two nights in August, 2008. It's a busy place with lots of younger people there to enjoy the attractions of the city, yet it was very quiet. The building was clean and well maintained. The included mini-breakfast was adequate, but more toasters and a rearrangement of the serving table would make things move quicker. The desk staff were friendly and helpful.
