I can't say much for the town of Hannover, it's a bit dreary especially in the winter.
Hannover is awesome. I do not know how you can say dreary in the winter. There are many things to do and see...and if all else fails there are some fun pubs!
Something very interesting in Bremerhaven is the "Deutsches Auswandererhaus," the "German Emigration House." Between 1830 and 1974, more than seven million people emigrated to oversea countries from the habour of Bremerhaven. The museums shows the reasons, why people left their countries to the New World, under which conditions they travelled, and how they have been treated after arriving in their new homeland. At the end, the museum shows facts and figures about migration today. This museum is interesting especially for people visting Germany from oversea countries, if they want to know a little bit about their ancestors. The museums has public computers for researching passenger lists from ships that went to New York City (in cooperation with an museums at Ellis Island). I enjoyed being in this museum.
There is not much to do in Hannover. The lake dug by Nazis is impressive, and there is ok shopping. Aside from that... who knows.
Osnabrück is nice and quiet, although you have a lively students' scene with many pubs in old halftimbered houses. What is nowhere mentioned in the guidebooks I used is that the Varus battle was fought north of town and one can visit a very interesting museum right on the former battlefield. The town sits in between two forests and has many nice walks (although some are a challenge to follow due to the lack of trail marks). If you are keen on megalith tombs, there are very inspiring places in the town itself, many are in the surrounding. It also has castles, mills, and many festivals throughout the year - oh, and such a wonderful Christmas-market! Osnabrueck is a great chill out town!
Bremerhaven is part of the Land of Bremen and not Lower Saxony.
Meppen is a beautiful town. The town is very clean, and many things there are cheap. I went arount the town by bike. It was an unforgetable experience.
Meppen is a beautiful village. We were there for Shootenfest (not sure how its spelled in German). The people were so wonderful to us Americans.
My father was born in Meppen. His name was Hermann Lubbers with the umlaut. I have been back to Meppen to visit cousins 5 to 6 times over the years and I have been just delighted with the city. Its history and natural beauty are just spectacular and I look forward to visiting the city again in the future.
Meppen is a beautiful town. I have been there 3 times.
Clausthal-Zellerfeld … This information is intended specifically for foreigner students coming to TU Clausthal. The town is a beautiful one, you are not dependent on tram timings as in big cities, all the places are accessible by foot. some of its departments are really good one with other being average. the winter is very harsh and long. it does not has its own bahnhof (railway station) so while coming from other cities/places you are dependent on the bus timings from Goslar (where railway station is) to Clausthal which could cause you to wait for quarter an hour if you are coming late or to wait till morning first bus if you are very late. All the necessary things you can get from the supermakt here but all the big names of shopping in Germany like Karstadt, Saturn, Media Markt, C&A, Real, are not present here -- for which you need to go to Goslar. The univesity has its hostels which in my opinion are in bad shape when I compare them with Uni Goettingen hostels (the only other…
Hannover … It's a bit wild but has cool tattoo shops.
