I was an American soldier stationed in Eschwege in 1952. It is a neat city and I would love seeing it again.
The city of Eschwege is amazing! There was lots to do. I really enjoyed visiting all of the women there.
Frankfurt isn't a tourist hub at all but the people are very nice and it really appeals to Americans. It is the most modern city in Europe and I guess that is why the people there say that their city is "Manhattan"!
I worked in Eschwege in 1978 (worked on Woolworths construction). I spent three wonderful months there and enjoyed it very much. I revisited in 1990 and it was still great -- I would like to visit again.
If you are flying RyanAir from the Frankfurt-Hahn airport take note; this airport is NOT in Frankfurt. The Hahn airport is two hours west. You must take a bus from Frankfurt to get there which is about €13.
LanguageAlliance Stay & Learn Residence (see above) doesn't have free internet anymore, but it's really cheap (~ 75 cents/hr). There are some museums in Frankfurt, but this really isn't a place that appeals to tourists. If you can make it for the Germany Ironman though, the bike race stops in Frankfurt and is a lot of fun.
Frankfurt There are tons of beautiful castles and historic attractions to visit, but overall the city is not a great tourist magnet. The people are exceptionally nice and most speak English. Be sure to visit Bad Homburg.
Büdingen I was stationed in Budingen from 1986 to 1988. It was a great experience. I miss my old friends, the food, and those weekend volksmarches. It was one of the best experiences that I had in my army career.
Büdingen I stationed in Budingen from July 1964 to December 1965, and had more fun that I had in high school. Anyone going to Germany really should go to Budingen -- the castle, the history, and the people are too good to miss.
Büdingen I was stationed in Budingen in the sixties. I married a local girl and we visit her family every year or two. Budingen is still the same beautiful town as back then and I feel like a native. I love the town and its people.
Büdingen I was stationed in Budingen for five years with the US Army, from 1979-83. Had a place a few minutes walk from the Budingen Schloss. Loved the city and the people. A must-visit if you're going on vacation in Germany.
Büdingen I was stationed in Budingen during 1954 and 1955 with the 517th armored. After fifty years I still think and daydream about my time there.
