I was in Cherbourg a few years years ago, when the U.S.A. had just started bombing Iraq. I was cursed, sworn at, shouted at in French, sworn at behind my back in English, cheated by the Ferry -- 100 Euro to make a two-hour crossing to Pourtsmouth. I was going to spend some days there hiking, and enjoying France, but the one night in a hostel was enough. I left the next day for Portsmouth and when I landed, I got down on my knees, and I kissed the soil of England. Never was I ever happier to be off the continent. Cherbourg does have an excellent baguette shop however -- best baguettes I ever tasted. Cherbourg is a good city to pass on your way to anywhere else.

Bayeux was awesome!
That cathedral in Bayeux is magnificent. Great arcitecture. By far the greatest cathedral in Europe.
I loved Bayeux! It is a delightful town with a fascinating history. Definitely worth a visit!
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … i recently visited Family home on a school trip back in march. i had the opportunity to be fed some traditional meals while i was there and they were amazing. i found the rooms fairly nice, with a good view ( at least from my room #15 ). the location was wonderful, located within walking distance of the downtown shops, the cathedral, and a shopping center. i found the people pretty nice, although you do need an understanding of french to understand most of what they say.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … The hostel was awesome. It felt nothing like most HI hostels; it had much more of a Bed & Breakfast kind of feel. English isn't their strong point, so knowing French helps, but it's also kind of fun to stumble your way through a place. It had one of the most interesting mixes of people I'd seen: American teenagers, Canadian backpackers, and middle-aged guys following the Tour de France. Great rooms, too.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … The large chessboard in the courtyard was awesome! The food was plentiful and fabulous. This was our favorite hostel in all of France, and Bayeux was my favorite town, as well.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … Apart from the owner who is a bit strange and doesn't always confirm reservations, the place was awesome. I spent one month in Europe staying at hostels, and this place was by far the best. The room we stayed in (one queen sized-bed) was filled with antique furniture...absolutely gorgeous! Everything was picture-perfect and clean. The breakfast is awesome! Most hostels serve plain bread with jam, or cereal and coffee. This place is very family-oriented. They served us fresh-baked bread, cheese, spreads, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, and it was all included in the price (which is quite a deal!) I totally recommend this hostel!
Robert Rême Hostel in Caen … I stayed for only one night, because they were full. No miracle, it's a fantastic hostel. Easy to find with the help of the maps in front of the train station. The price is (no joke) eleven € (!) per night, excluding sheets (two €) and breakfast (two-fifty €). It offers four-bed rooms, with shower and toilet in different rooms within the four-bed room. A kitchen with heating plates and cleaning facility for the dishes. Lockable cupboards are in the rooms, too. Best price for maximum offer I got on my trip through France! But reserve! There are not many beds there, but it's worth it!
Centre Duguesclin Hostel in Pontorson … A nice hostel, Very clean and cheap!! It's near Mont Saint Michel... really wonderful!
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … I was there in October, 2001. It was excellent, and full of character.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … Visited this hotel in 2003. It is a real family hotel -- for kids and groups it is ideal. Breakfast is served in a beautiful room and is very good!!! The hotel itself is partly in a 15th century building which enhances its character.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … I stayed here in August 2005. It's a very good hostel to stay in when visiting the D-Day Beaches. Very clean, good facilities. (The kitchen needs a bit of a clean, though). Good social areas. The only problem was trying to find someone who works there, like other reviews have said. Try talking in French to the lady who runs the place, you might actually be able to get her to speak in English and smile. It's within walking distance to the main street of the city.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … I was at this hostel in 1999 with my family when my brother and I were 12 and 10. My whole family loved the experience of this hostel. We were in the main building (I wasn't aware that there was a different one). Our room was up a tall winding tower and the whole air about the place was romantic and exciting. At the time, we had dinner in the main room, with about six courses served to us, and afterwards we were able to relax and chat with other travelers from around the room in their living/dining room area. The rooms were amazing too, very clean, comfortable and interestingly decorated. I would definitely go back here, to stay in the main place if possible, although it really helped that my dad spoke French. Try booking a family room if possible, as they are extremely nice.
Family Home Hostel in Bayeux … I toured Europe in the summer of 2005 and found this to be the best hostel I stayed at, for both price and character. As many others have pointed out, the old lady's English skills aren't so good, but my French is horrible and we were able to communicate. The food was good and the atmosphere was excellent! I hadn't made reservations, so I ended up with a bunch of Canadian college students in the attic loft, which was relatively clean and comfortable. Everything you'd want to see is within a short walking distance. I'd recommend this hostel to anyone traveling to Normandy.
Centre D'Accueil Municipal in Bayeux … I had the pleasure of residing at the Centre D'Accueil Municipal for four weeks. The hostel is very clean and the staff is very friendly. I didn't fully appreciate its simple living style until I toured more hostels and hotels throughout France. The rooms have a small closet, and small bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower (one must put their leg out on the toilet from the shower to shave). The room is a small square with a small bed (easy for making-up), desk with chair, and large window that opens out and gives a wonderful breeze. There is no air, of course, and the heat source is a single radiator. Clean linens are provided weekly and the staff will give extra blankets upon request. Each hall has a small kitchen with stove, refrigerator w/freezer, table/chairs, and wash sink. There is a meeting room with chairs and tables if you desire meeting up with others for a chat. The front doors are locked nightly and you are given a code for entry. The store for groceries, and any other…
