York … Visit the Minster, shop at McArthur Glen, eat in the Lanes, drink at the Maltings.
YHA York Youth Hostel in York … This hostel is excellent! Very clean throughout. Spacious lounges. They offer great evening meals -- reasonably priced and large portions of home-cooked food.
YHA York Youth Hostel in York … I thought the hostal was brilliant. I enjoyed my stay and I would love to go back. the meals were lovely. I would recommend it to friends and family. The thing I thought was funny was the scary man outside the restaurant
YHA York Youth Hostel in York … If only we had known! We would have planned a longer stay. It was fun, friendly, clean, and welcoming and the breakfast and evening meals were great. No hassles with parking the car, overall very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to friends.
YHA York Youth Hostel in York … Definitely the best youth hostel I've every stayed at. [in foot and mouth year] Hope they don't decide to close it, after all it is north of both London and Matlock.
YHA York Youth Hostel in York … What an excellent hostel! It is in a beautiful location within walking distance to the city. There is also a bus stop nearby. This hostel is one of the best supplied I have ever experienced. There is a bike rental, great lock-up for valuables, a bar, gardens, cafeteria, internet. And everywhere it is clean. The staff are friendly and helpful.
York Backpackers in York … Helpful staff, nice clean rooms and great breakfast included. The hostel is perfectly located in the city centre.
York Backpackers in York … I wasn't expecting miracles, but this was a surprisingly good hostel. It the closest I have been to a proper backpacker hostel in the last couple of weeks traveling. It had a wide range of people staying and it wasn't overrun by long term migrant workers, a problem that has plagued backpacker hostels recently in this country. The staff were very friendly and the place was pretty clean. It's not a party hostel and the corridors can seem a bit empty but there is usually always someone to chat to especially in the kitchen. There is a lot of information about York in the hostel too. The beds are not as bad as some have said and the rooms were fairly well spaced. My only minor gripes were that the showers were a bit cold and I think a key entry or swipe card system would have been better for entry to the hostel than having to knock on the door all the time. But overall I enjoyed my stay at York backpackers and York is a beautiful city too!
York Backpackers in York … My first impression of this hostel was a really good one--it had nice and friendly staff, and a good atmosphere between all people. The TV room was perfect to just relax and watch a movie. The hostel was excellently located, and the included breakfast was good. I will probably be back!
York Backpackers in York … Very helpful staff. I am not sure I would call the breakfast "giant", but it's pretty good. York has clean rooms, sheets, and bathrooms. It is very well-located, although it can be noisy at night sometimes--there are something like 13 pubs on the same road, and there are lots of people out for a good time! The kitchen is good but a little small; it has a bar and tv room downstairs in the "dungeon". All in all, it's a pretty good hostel (the only 18 bed dorm I've ever stayed in; luckily there are no snorers!!).
York Backpackers in York … There were too many people living in the hostel room for weeks on end; they had taken over the room. It had a great location and fun, friendly staff. It was also clean. I'd recommend it.
York Backpackers in York … The bunk beds are not crammed into a room and there was enough space for everyone. The location of this hostel is very good, a few minutes from the train station and city center. The breakfast here is one of the best I have seen in the UK.
York Backpackers in York … We stayed here in October, in a female dorm room. There were no locks on the doors, but I put some stuff in the safe, and was impressed with the way they handled it (took my name, made me sign when it was returned to me, gave me a card with a number, much better than some other hostels). Rooms were clean, as was the kitchen, the toilets and the showers. Showers were ok, although the water pressure wasn't the best in the world. Sheets were clean, although extremely hard to sleep in. Location was good, close walk into the main center of town. Overall, good hostel, worth the money. As a side note, I recommend the ghost tour that leaves from the Minster, was only £2 (student), very interesting and enjoyable.
