Hey all travellers Alajuela is the best town in CR to spend a couple of nights before heading for the beach or the mountains. It's only five minutes away from the airport and a taxi ride to there is only like 2 bucks so it is a great deal, it is very clean and much more safer than San Jose, you should visit it.
Hostel Pangea in San José This place rocks. It's clean offer a free breakfast and a phone in which you call to the USA and Canada for free!! What else do you need.
Hostel Pangea in San José By far Best Place in Town! This place sticks out in our minds as one of the best and cheapest places in the whole country. We loved it.
Hostel Pangea in San José Very good hostel, with nice people. It would not be the same experience if it weren't for the very nice staff who helped me a lot about where to go with San Jose's (limited) attractions. Highly recommended.
Hostel Pangea in San José It's hard to put into words the comfort and acceptance that you feel staying at Pangea. You can truly feel at ease there.
Kàbáta Hostel in San José Kabata was awesome! The owner was so kind, helpful, and genuine. He drove us around — even to the grocery store — and helped us with travel and arrangements in other cities. No detail was overlooked. I was so impressed and grateful. Thanks again Kabata!
Costa Rica Backpackers Hostel in San José Fantastic hostel. I stayed here in September 2004. It's a large hostel, with many rooms, a swimming pool, and a large staff always cleaning the place. The staff have TONS of useful traveling information about other countries and other places in Costa Rica. The hostel has two TV rooms, a kitchen, an on-site small restaurant, and free 24-hour coffee service. The place is very safe, with private lockers and a locked front gate. It's in a quiet neighborhood, about a ten-minute walk from the Hotel del Rey in downtown San Jose.
Costa Rica Backpackers Hostel in San José It was clean, with hot water most of the time. There's a large TV screen, and good opportunities to meet people of all ages. Great kitchen. We would walk downtown and buy fruit galore for pennies, and then make huge fruit salad and pass it around. A great way to meet people. Give your pineapple trimmings (peel and all) to the lady who cleans the kitchen; she will appreciate it and she will make agua de pina with it. It has a great bulletin board to exchange information. We were prevented from making a serious mistake by reading info on it. We stayed five nights. It was great to have the free Internet, too. Do watch your belongings if you are near a window. Crooks have been known to slip their arm through the slats of the window to steal. Also, a member of staff was stealing. But you can put your belongings in a locked box in your own bedroom.
Hostel Pangea in San José This is the best option in town.
HI - San Jose - Toruma Hostel in San José We backpacked in Central America for two months with our 10- and 11-year-old boys. This was their favorite place to stay. They said it felt like home.
Hostel Pangea in San José Hey fellow travelers!! The minute you show up you will never want to go. The staff and the place are just unique. Check out their pool and bar, check out the loft, and definitely check it out. Pangea rocks!!
Costa Rica Backpackers Hostel in San José I had only planned to stay one night in San Jose but loved this place so much that I stayed much longer! It was a really nice atmosphere and the staff were cool.
