Hey all travellers Alajuela is the best town in CR to spend a couple of nights before heading for the beach or the mountains. It's only five minutes away from the airport and a taxi ride to there is only like 2 bucks so it is a great deal, it is very clean and much more safer than San Jose, you should visit it.
Hostel Pangea in San José … It's hard to put into words the comfort and acceptance that you feel staying at Pangea. You can truly feel at ease there.
Costa Rica Backpackers Hostel in San José … Such a good place - feels safe and inviting and there's a pool - quite pricey tho compared to the rest of Central America.
Backpackers JC Friends Hostel in San José … JC and Friends hostel was my first, and remains as the best, hostel experience I have ever had. The staff and owner, J.C., were helpful and knowledgeable. The hostel was clean and the room was comfortable. We felt very safe being in downtown San Jose and the inside of the hostel has a pool table and a living room with a TV as well as free internet! Breakfast was included and it was overall a great experience. J.C. also helped us get a bus to Tamarindo and book at the other hostel located there. We were lucky to come across this hostel and I will continue to come to this hostel upon returning!
Gaudys Backpackers Hostel in San José … Gaudys is a very relaxing hotel. The layout is beautiful, with open enclosures and hammocks with a view of the beautiful Costa Rican sky. These open enclosures have patios and dinning areas to relax and eat. There is an open kitchen so you can cook your favorite foods for your friends and guests; it really is a home a way from home. I stayed there six weeks and worked over the Internet, which is high speed. The owners and staff are all family so it is no wonder that they are so nice to their guests. The service was exceptional and professional. One of the best parts of the experience was the exceptional international people I met and had the privilege of dining with. I made many friends that to this day I communicate with over the Internet. At one point the gracious owners accompanied me and another hotel guest out for dinner; they are truly good people. I will stay at Gaudys the next time I visit San Jose, Costa Rica, with friends.
Casa Yoses Hostel in San José … Nice place. We had some good times in the bars around. "Viva la Calle de la Amargura !!!"

Hostel Pangea in San José … Very laid-back hostel, great service. It was conducive to interaction between travelers. Barrio Amon is a very nice neighborhood (potentially the only one I really enjoyed while in San Jose). Enjoy the crazy painted walls, attentive service, and great clientele.
