Hangzhou is an absolutely beautiful city. I took it as a 4 day trip out of Shanghai where I was studying and fell in love.
4 Eyes Backpackers Youth Hostel in Hangzhou … I came to Hangzhou because I kept hearing about the West Lake and all of the beauty that surrounded it. When I arrived at 4 eyes, I immediately felt like this was the part of Hangzhou that people talked about when they spoke of how special it was. Here, you are outside of the city, nestled at the foot of a mountain, just a short walking distance from the southwestern part of the lake. It is in an area that has been kept well preserved and offers the most beautiful scenery around the lake. Additionally, there are numerous hiking trails through the various mountains that surround the hostel. Last but certainly not least, the food here is delicious. It's great Chinese food, but the chefs really know how to make it to suit my western palate!
HI - Hangzhou - Youth Hostel in Hangzhou … A little bit tricky to find, the hostel itself is at the end of a lane off Zhongshan Lu, so it's very well located, practically opposite the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts (Zhonguo Meishu). The hostel itself has a really nice vibe, with a small bamboo courtyard with tables and chairs. Inside beside the reception is a really nice chill out room with chairs and cushions, and a massive TV with loads of DVDs. The dorm beds are fine, it's clean, air-conditioned and the showers are just along the hall.
Emerald Hostel in Hangzhou … My wife, my ten-month old daughter, and I had a wonderful stay at the Emerald Hostel. We stayed here for four nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the peace, quiet, and zen feeling that we experienced here. It is so near to the West Lake and all the nice places you want to go and yet so peaceful and quiet. Unbelievable with the tea gardens just a few metres away. Our room was spacious, clean, and the electric bed warmer was superb idea. They even gave us free laundry, breakfast, helped us book cheap flights to our next destination, and even got our taxi with negotiated good price to the airport for us. John and Jinn were very friendly, helpful, and kind. We had a lot of fun talking to them and sharing our experiences. Our stay at the Emerald Hostel and visit to Hangzhou was the highlight of our twenty-days trip in China although we did visit many other great places like Shanghai, Putuoshan, Suzhou, Guilin, Yangshou, Hong Kong (including Disneyland and shopping), and Macau. Hangzhou West Lake Youth Hostel in Hangzhou … Position is close to the centre, in a green environment, and close to several sights. Service is excellent, extremely friendly, and helpful. Rooms are modern, clean, perfect. Absolutely recommendable! I stayed in the hostel for only one night, but for sure I will return to this beautiful little oasis. The opening of this hostel is only one month ago (3/2007) and I really hope that they can keep the standard. I really enjoyed the dumpling party, the little garden, the hot shower, the cold beer, the dvd collection while it was raining, the chinese and internationals, and the time with the other guests from all over the world. Frank -- who is definitely the funniest and nicest chinese guy I have ever met -- welcomes every guest as a friend and takes care for every need.

Hangzhou West Lake Youth Hostel in Hangzhou … This is a great place -- nice rooms at a really good price, excellent location, really fun and helpful staff. I stayed here for a few days and had a great time, and would recommend it to anyone who comes to this city. They also serve great food and have a really nice lounge area and garden. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to hangzhou!

Migrator Youth Hostel in Hangzhou … Friendly staff that is always helpful. Not everybody speaks English. The room is quite clean, also the toilet. Free internet-access (with cable) in the dormitory if you bring your own computer. There is delicious food offered in the hostel for lunch as well as for dinner for low price. Outside there are places to sit and eat in a nice surrounding. Directly located beside the botanical garden and about fifteen minutes by foot to the West Lake. Bikes can be rent in the hostel. Shops are in the neighbourhood. I really enjoyed my stay. The atmosphere was fantastic. It is a place where you can take your tours or just relax in the hostel.
HI - Hangzhou - Jiangnanyi Hostel in Hangzhou … don't go there, the bed was hard as hell, the bathroom is filthy, and the owner is a racist bitch. this is the worst youth hostel i ever visited.
