Nanjing Fuzimiao International Youth Hostel in Nanjing Well I was there in the summer, and it was amazing. Great staff, I met some real characters there, including a friend I'm still in touch with. There are random drawings and posters on the walls from people from all over the world, and a great big tattered guestbook. The setting is perfect, there is so much to see in the immediate vicinity including scenic gardens with performances and beautiful little boats you can go out on the river in at night. We got a lost a few times, but that's part of the fun.
Suzhou Hostel (Utels) in Suzhou Very hard to find. It is down an alleyway next to 188 Zuihui Road. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are nice and clean. The toilets and shower are not great but do-able.
HI - Nanjing Jasmine International Youth Hostel in Nanjing we arrived late in the evening, and even though the taxi driver was not familiar with the address, we found the entrance to the lane easily by the large hoarding near the pavement. the welcome was wonderful and the atmosphere extremely relaxed and homelike. we had a mixed dorm in the roof of the building and met some lovely canadian ladies teaching in taiyuan. the place was very clean and organised, interesting, and inviting.
HI - Nanjing Jasmine International Youth Hostel in Nanjing The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms clean, and the linen was changed every day. Also, it was near to a street where you can buy a lot of delicious snacks!
Nanjing Fuzimiao International Youth Hostel in Nanjing Stayed in February 2007 during Chinese New Year Festival. It is a really good hostel with a great common area. Located in Fuzimiao district, it is also very central to many transportation links to tourist sites around Nanjing. The shared rooms were big with its own en-suite. Tidy, not super-clean bathrooms -- much better than 95% of Chinese hostels. Plenty of hot water. Dormitory rooms and facilities looked a little more rudimentary. Pay more for the rooms I reckon. The address is actually Pingjianfu Road 68, Fuzimiao District, Nanjing. It is located right next to the Pingjian Bridge. Directions (copied and pasted) below. The hostel is now located on 1. If you arrive by Train, Take No.1 Bus from Nanjing main station, get off at the last stop, then go down then across the street, then turn left, walk down until you see McDonald's at the corner, then make a right, go down about five minutes. You will see the hostel near a small bridge. it's better to give them a call! (taxi costs less
Nanjing Fuzimiao International Youth Hostel in Nanjing Very friendly staff. The people like to help you in every case. The rooms are ok, they have TV and free internet access (with cable). The toilet is quite clean in the dormitory, the public one is for standing. The public room is great for meeting new people, there is wireless internet-access TV and DVD, but it is really cold. The location is very good, to Fuzimiao-Shopping-Street it is one minute by foot, Bus and Subway station can be reached by walk.
Nanjing Fuzimiao International Youth Hostel in Nanjing I would likely push the rating up to 4 stars in the summer, but this place's shortcomings really come through in the winter. The people there were warm, but the place was ice-cold - freezing in the common area, and hot water?--Forget about it. Had to leave a day earlier to come back to life. But hey, if you take away my brush with hypothermia, not a bad place!
Suzhou Hostel (Utels) in Suzhou Not very good. The rooms are really tiny and very noisy, the price i booked for wasn't correct, and the showers and toilets are really very tiny. Staff is friendly however.
Nanjing Fuzimiao International Youth Hostel in Nanjing It sounds like a great hostel, it almost seems like a shame that it's not there anymore. Last time I was there, it was covered in workmen who were quite happily ripping it to pieces. Oh well!
Suzhou Hostel (Utels) in Suzhou I never got to stay here because even though I called and booked ahead by a month, when I called days before to reconfirm, they didn't have my reservation and their English had mysteriously gotten a lot worse. And of course, they didn't have any rooms left. Good luck, but call to reconfirm!
Suzhou Hostel (Utels) in Suzhou This is really the worst hostel I have ever been in. On the internet we booked a six-persons suite with own shower. But when we arrived in the hostel, this suite doesn't exist. Ok fine, then another dorm-room with separate shower. The beds were very hard, as in a wooden plank with a blanket. Everywhere on the hallway and the toilet/bathroom area was an awful pee smell and in the shower/toilet area was a leak. The water even dripped in the hallway. First you had to pull up your trousers and wear flip-flops when you wanted to reach to the toilet. But you couldn't avoid wet feet. The two showers only had one door, so you had to take a shower with a person you know or take a shower so that nobody else could take a shower at the same time. The water was too cold or too hot.
