HI - Guilin - Flowers Blossom YH Hostel in Guilin We only stayed here one night. It was a little hard to find at first -- coming from the train station, we didn't realize we had to cross the street. However, once we saw the bright pink signs, it was easy to find. The hostel is a refuge of western warmth and comfort in a traditional chinese city. Wood decoration, lots of plants, extremely well decorated. The rooms were clean as well as the bathrooms. The bed squeaked like crazy when I would move around (I felt bad for my roommates), and they had a crazy little kitten there that was "meowing" like crazy, but other than that, it was great. Very nice and convenient. I recommend it!
HI - Guilin - Flowers Blossom YH Hostel in Guilin One of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in. Better than many a hostel in Europe. Very new, clean and a good atmosphere. Nice staff who were pretty helpful and most of whom spoke English. Internet, pool table and DVD collection were ace. Overall a great four nights there.
Guilin Backstreet Youth Hostel in Guilin This is really clean and nice hostel with helpful staff and good location. (Located near the Li -river and a pleasant shopping street just behind a corner.) Dorm room I stayed in was nicely furnished and had big lockers. Bed was big and comfortable. Only minus was that it was horribly cold in the common room/internet room.
Yangshuo Xinyue Hotel in Yangshuo We stayed there from sept 13 to 15, 2009. The room is spacious and clean. Also has windows, western type toilet. The room and linen is cleaned everyday. Staff very helpful and polite. Hotel is well located. Only ten minutes walk to the famous west street shopping and entertainment place and near market. Room rate is dirt cheap -- only RMB60 for a twin bed, private en-suite room. Only problem is there is no lift. So ask for lower floor room.
HI - Yangshuo - West Street Hostel in Yangshuo One of the worse hostel i've been in. Dirty, wc was broken, they didn't do anything to repair it. A big stain of humidity on the wall next to bed. I moved bed, really dirty under it. Damp bed linen. The cleaner was always connected to internet so customers couldn't use it. Very bad english at reception desk. Very noise place. Difficult to get a good rest. The food at bar wasn't bad. Young waitress very pleasant although she didn't spoke english. At least someone friendly. I suggest not to stay in this hostel at all.
HI - Yangshuo - West Street Hostel in Yangshuo The good point -- great location -- located at the opening of West Street, friendly front desk staff. The bad point -- dirty rooms, because of their lazy cleaning staff, cockroaches on the bathroom and even on your bed, the cleaning staff will go in the room, clean the bathroom, they will mop the floor maybe halfway if they feel like cleaning it, they dont even sweep the floor. Rooms have very old bed sheets, some of them have holes on it, bed cushion is really old too, what you normally will throw out, they still use it there. There are other hostels in yangshou for the same price, or you can book a room of your own for a price of a dorm bed in some small inn there. Good Luck to those who want to stay there.
HI - Yangshuo - West Street Hostel in Yangshuo The first night I arrived, the person acting as manager took me to a bar, tried to get me drunk, and then said he wanted to "show me the river." So he brought me to a very dark place, and tried very hard to kiss me. After solidly refusing and walking away (though I didn't know where I was going), he said that oh, I must not be drunk. Great way to admit you're trying to take advantage of me! Besides that, they will try to cheat you out of your money from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. I booked a plane ticket through them, and he didn't tell me the actual price, charged me 120Y extra, which I didn't find out until the ticket arrived (most places might charge a booking fee of ~40Y). By then, he was nowhere to be found and no one else would help. They charge ridiculous amounts for other activities, so don't even bother going through them. EG 300Y for a riverboat ride (they'll say it's half a day, but it's two hours), and you can get it for 100-200 elsewhere. Likewise
Sweet Hotel in Guilin We stayed somewhere else first, but it was too loud (felt like we had the disco in our room) so we moved to this sweet place. There is not much to say -- tidy, big rooms, definitely quiet for sleeping but only two minutes walk from the bars and clubs in west street if you want to party.
Room service every day, western toilet (that's not common everywhere!) and friendly and helpful staff. We even had a TV in the room and there are rooms with own computers. Another computer is at the reception, free for internet use. The whole hotel is new and modernly furnished.
The only minus however is, that it closes its gate at 1 a.m.
Sihai Hotel in Yangshuo Very good hotel, not expensive, staff very friendly, rooms light, clean and cute. The hotel is very well located but a bit noisy because precisely of its location (main street of Yangshuo with lots of bars and shops). A very good place however.
Guilin New Century Hotel in Guilin I've only been to the hotel for one night, as a stop through on the way to Hong Kong. The staff was friendly even at 11:30 p.m., though they didn't speak English. They tried to get a large deposit of 500RMB, just for one night. That was a little too much. Oh, and first they gave me the wrong key, so I had to change rooms twice (that's not much fun at this time of the day!). The room I finally got was clean, the bathroom was really nice, and breakfast in the morning was good too. They had some nice cookies!
