Sofia is one of the best cities in Europe, it has variety of interesting places to go and party. Girls are nice, if not the best, and I'll go to visit again for sure!
Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria. Its traditions are based on the 800 year old war between Bulgarians and the Turks. Now the Bulgarians are busy reconstructing their country and to be a part of the European Union.
Varna is about 6 hours away (by train - maximum 30 leva) from Sofia. It has clean beaches and lots of character - lovely people and very cheap. Varna's night life is great, eating out is very cheap.
Visit the world famous Boyana Church which can be reached by public bus, Sveta Petka Church which is surrounded by the Sheraton Hotel. So a half-day walk through Sofia is enough to visit the most important sights -- if you want to do more, a full day is all right. Please note that you have to purchase and punch a second ticket for your backpack. I saw fellow travelers who got fined by paying 7 leva (a single ticket is 0,70 leva). This is still usual in some other eastern European countries, not only in Bulgaria. The "Inspectors" or "Kontrol" only speak Bulgarian and are mostly elder people. Be careful when you enter the street tram at Sofia railway station or some stops before it.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia This was the friendliest hostel I stayed in while in Europe for 50 weeks. The staff are so helpful and friendly. I would recommend them if you are going to Sofia, and if you have time take the day tour to the Rila Monastery with them.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia Great hostel - good location, friendly and very helpful staff and copetitive price. The showers have hot water and the included breakfast and pasta meal an added bonus. Definitely one of the better hostels in Europe.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia This hostel is great. The atmosphere is great and you get to meet a lot of people. The free Internet, breakfast and pasta and beer make it very good place. The guy that runs it is one of the friendliest people there and he really looks after you. It's clean and tidy all around. It's hard to get a bed, so make a booking.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia I had a brilliant time! The hosts are cool, and they have all the information needed to explore the town and the rest of the country! Free internet access, TV, breakfast in the morning, right downtown. And all for 20 Leva a night (10 euro). I'll be back! Asta la vista baby.
Art Hostel - Usually We Spend Our Time In The Garden in Sofia I spent just one night at the Art Hostel, but it was enough for me to say that it was the best I have been to (and probably any other I will visit in the future). And I say this mostly because of the atmosphere, which is created by its people and the house itself, which has this fresh and new feeling to it. It all makes you feel at home immediately, so it is no wonder I miss it now, just like you miss home sometimes. Recommended!
Hostel Mostel in Sofia One of the best hostels in eastern europe. It's a great value for the money, and they provide great service.
Rossi Hostel in Sofia It is a perfect place to stay in Sofia!
Internet Hostel in Sofia This is one of the best hostels I've been to. It has a great staff, very clean beds and bathrooms, free Internet, and it is in the best location.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. It's very clean, has a very good breakfast, free Internet, and the owner is really nice and very helpful. Ask him! He will help you with everything. The location is also good and trips to the Rila Monastery are organized there. In the evening you get a free dinner. And everything for just 8 euros!!! Really amazing!!
Art Hostel - Usually We Spend Our Time In The Garden in Sofia This is one of the more unique hostels I've found. It's well located with a stylish yet inexpensive Internet cafe directly across the road, and a restaurant behind that offers top food and service at bargain prices. Come here and try a banitzer and coffee from the small bakery on the corner, too. As for the hostel itself, it's certainly a different experience in that you it's easy to meet creatively driven local people, which is an unusual opportunity. There's no need to be intimidated by this though, if you're not artistically inclined, as the staff are welcoming and will do their utmost to respond to your needs. The pace is sometimes chilled-out and sometimes party-central, so it can be interesting trying to anticipate what might happen from one day to the next. An unusual hostel in an unusual country, the Art Hostel reflects the enigma that is Bulgaria.
Hostel Mostel in Sofia A brilliant hostel. It's in a great location, and all of the six or seven staff members speak fluent English. Unlike many hostels, reception is staffed twenty-four hours as advertised and there is free dinner and well as free breakfast. They arrange tours to the Rila Monastry, they have loads of information on things to do in town, and information on buses and trains out of town. Free internet also. The only problem was that the bar kept running out of beer during our time there (maybe we drank too much?).
