The hostel is about a good 20 minute walk from the train station without any luggage. With luggage, it will take you about 30-45 minutes. It is not located in the center of town, so buy your groceries at the supermarket in town before heading there. There are no grocery shops nearby. Best to get a map of the town (available online) because it's not a straight forward walk to get there.
The best part is that is that the rooms are clean although the matresses are old and very springy -- definitely not for those with bad backs. Most of the pillows are lumpy. No bunk beds, just four single beds in one room and an attached bathroom. The owner is friendly, provided you don't disturb him during the lock out period. You can only check in at 4pm and you check out by 10am. He can even provide you with bus information to Giverny and speaks good English! The hostel is very quiet.
There is a big garden and you can walk out to the garden from your room through the second set of doors. The showers are wonderfully hot and water pressure is strong - it's almost the best way to end the day!
There are two kitchens. They both have the basic pots, pans, and stove, but you can forget about the frills. Only the main kitchen has a fridge and microwave. Be warned that the recreational room (with books and table soccer) and the kitchen are only open from 7:30 am to 10 am and from 6 pm to 10 pm. They are otherwise locked.
You can take a 5 minute walk to the Seine River from the hostel. It's a nice walk and an alternative route to town too.
