The clean, charming Mont Saint Michel Genets is located in the quiet village of Genets, about half an hour away from Le Mont Saint Michel. It is a newly renovated historical train station yet has the decor and atmosphere of a beach-side getaway. This is probably not a place for the “party seekers,” as there is no bar, TV, or even internet space, although the atmosphere could completely change depending on what time of year you're staying. The village could come alive during the peak of the summer, but during early spring and late fall it will most likely be quiet and relaxing. It is a great location for accessing the activities in the Mont Saint Michel region during the summer (including traversing the bay with a guide or horseback riding).
The dorm rooms are located in a separate building from the reception/common area. The rooms are spacious, with a few beds as well as a sink. Communal showers and a kitchen are just outside the dorm rooms. The communal kitchen is small and not very well-equipped, but it does have a fridge, microwave, two hot plates, and a coffee maker. The bathrooms were very clean and nice, although the showers were the kind you have to push on every thirty seconds, and the water was not very hot.
The hostel has a great location if you have a car, otherwise it may be difficult to get to. After driving through the village of Genets (for less than one kilometer), there will be a sign on the left saying "La Plage." After that the hostel is just on the right side of the road.
This hostel is popular among tour groups and school groups, so while one weekend it could have lots of free space, another weekend it could be completely booked. Be sure to call ahead and make sure they have room. If you do happen to go on a weekend when it is fully booked, be aware that meals are served at two times because the dining room/common area only seats twenty-five. The reasonably-priced breakfast is a typical hostel breakfast of white bread, corn flakes, and beverages.
