The Hostelz.com Review
Lyon 2 - Vénissieux AJ is located in the outskirts of Lyon, close to the junction of two big avenues (each of them looks like a highway). This place is very calm and placid, but one should spend some time to reach the hostel from Lyon's center.

There are two very simple ways to get to the hostel from the center. One can either take a bus thirty-five to the bus stop "G. Levi Auberge Jeunesse" (Auberge Jeunesse means Youth Hostel) or take a bus thirty-six to the stop "Joliot-Curie Auberge Jeunesse." From each stop, you can reach the hostel in three to four minutes. There is another way to get to the hostel, which sometimes is more convenient. Just go by metro to the final station "Gare de Venissieux," then take a bus thirty-six to "J.-C. Auberge Jeunesse." Don't even try to get to the hostel on foot from the metro station "Parilly."

There are several fast-food snack-bars close to the hostel, a Chinese restaurant that is quite expensive, and the enormous Carefour supermarket with a cheap and tasty self-service restaurant.

The hostel is located in a small grey building. The reception, rooms, toilets, and showers are at the first floor; the dining-hall, rest-room, library, and kitchen are at the second. There is a fridge and a microwave in the kitchen, but one can hardly find any crockery. A common room has three two-storeyed beds, two sinks, a table, and six lockers (you need your own lock).

The hostel looks quite poor, but it is clean and the staff is very pleasant. The prices are also low. If you want to waste some time in the hostel there is a small library with some popular books.

I think this place needs a depserate refit -- rooms were old and everything about the place was showing its age. Big distance from Metro and bus was also a factor -- apart from the fact the hostel is hidden behind a Peugot factory. However the staff were helpful and friendly, even sent my hostel card to Germany after I left it behind.

This hostel was good, and the staff were kind and friendly. It was clean, too. But it was a little old and protracted.

I only stayed here one night, but it was the most relaxing night I had during my whole trip. It's quite large and was relatively empty when I went (beginning of May). The staff were really nice and gave me a room all to myself, which was great because I was exhausted! Very clean, roomy, and cozy!!
