The hostel is easy to get to. From the station, take tram 2B Grâce de Dieu to Rostand Fresnel stop. Then walk straight, turn right at the round-about, and rue Eustache Restout is on the right. It isn't in the downtown part of Caen, so if you want to find dinner or an internet café it is best to do that before heading back to the hostel. The hostel is pretty lively, as it is also a residence for young workers (mainly males).
The building is clean and in good condition, but strangely, the bathrooms are co-ed (there are stalls with doors but also urinals in the female bathroom!?). None of the stalls have toilet paper (there should be some in the hostel rooms) and the light for each stall is on a timer so it sometimes goes out before you are finished. There are lockers in the rooms, as well as a shower.
Each room has four beds (bunk-beds) and is quite spacious, partly divided in half by a wall. The rental sheets aren't real sheets, but more like thin mesh, yet they cost about 2 or 3 euros. You can also buy breakfast there. Overall though, it is cheap, easily accessible, and has friendly staff and clean rooms.
