Hostal Residencia Paz is simply refreshing. If you are a hardened backpacker, you will appreciate the luxury offered here!
The Location
Located almost in the center of Madrid, it's very short walking to some great sights and eating out in downtown Madrid. The metro is close by (nearest stop is Opera). There isn't much car parking, as is common in Madrid, but if you have a car you should be able to find somewhere easy enough. Everything is in walking distance!
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are quite amazing compared to the usual dorm room backpacker styles -- not huge, but more than comfortable -- and all rooms have air conditioning and a small shower, basin, television. Even bedding and towels are provided. The shower in your room isn't really private, but there is a large common bathroom just down the hall. There is plenty of space for your bags and you get a key to the room as well as to the front security doors. You're on the second floor, so quite safe from roaming no-gooders.
Common Spaces
While this is not a social hostel, Spain in itself is very social! You wont be meeting lots of other backpackers at Hostel Paz, but you can meet the world out on the streets of Madrid. The hostel is quite private, and while the owners only speak Spanish, they are very friendly and more than able to help tourists! There is a twenty-four-hour store close by and a vending machine downstairs. Also, there is free wireless internet in every room!
Summary
This is quite a great little hostel, very comfortable -- and being so close to the center of Madrid it allows you to see all the sights, but still get back to your room quickly if you want a rest from the Spanish summer heat. The rates are neither expensive nor cheap by European standards and you get a private room to yourself away from dorm-style sleeping, with security and comfort you will quite appreciate!
