The Hostelz.com Review
Pisa is expensive and the Relais Under the Tower hostel is a budget option for travelers. It's located very well for the main sights, there are many restaurants close by, and it's a nice, inviting environment for a nice stay.
Location
It's a twenty-minute walk from the train station, but only two minutes from Pisa´s leaning tower. Relais Under the Tower hostel is also easy to reach by the local bus taken in front of the train station and stopping at the Piazza of the tower. Underneath the hostel is a restaurant which drops the cover charge for guests.
Rooms and Bathrooms
All rooms and bathrooms are very clean. There are single beds in every room (no bunk beds) and they are already made up when you arrive -- it all looks more like a nice hotel. Towels are included in the price. TV and small safe boxes are in every room.
Common Spaces
It is a small hostel, so there are not many spots to relax. The kitchen and the common room are in one, so while cooking, you can meet fellow travelers. The room is pretty small with just one little table, so using the internet while other people are cooking or eating can get a bit tricky. The kitchen is well equipped and Wi-Fi/internet is free.
Summary
Most guests stay only for one night, due to Pisa having only one interesting sight, the Tower. The hostel is a nice base for Pisa and the cleanliness of the hostel is worth paying the couple of Euro more.

Caution about Booking Here: Poor upkeep, excessive stairs, theft. May of this year 5 of us stayed in this Hostel. We have stayed at many hostels in Europe, but have never encountered a staff that did not communicate with us, a room that had water stains all over the ceilings, moulding that literally feel off the doors when shut, beds that smelled musty, 3 flights of stairs, and people who failed to return a journal and several other personal items of value that were left in the room. I tried multiple contacts with these folks, but received no response. — Dr. Wes Stevens , USA (2011-05-24)
Nice, clean, and cheating The place is really under the tower -- seventy meters from there. It seems to be really clean and ok. But the guy overbooked me! I've just arrived at 11:30 p.m. and there were no places for me! He gave my money back (I've paid the reservation) and let me out. This happened a day before my birthday -- alone, at night, with my luggage in a strange (but beautiful) city. Really, take care! — Snake , Brasil (2009-07-17)
