Chernivtsi is architecturally a very beautiful 600 year old city in the Western Ukraine close to the Romanian and Moldovan borders. Steeped in history, the city is known for the University building and the huge outdoor Kalinevsky Market.

Once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, {with many buildings reflecting this}, it is a perfect base from which to explore the parts of Western Ukraine not usually visited by foreign tourists.
We were the first hostel in Chernivtsi and live here, so we are happy to share our experiences and do what we can to ensure you have a great time while you are here, away from the more expensive destinations like Lviv, Odessa and Kiev.

TIU ia an English / Ukrainian venture small enough to offer a friendly, personal touch with European style quality control and management. Chernivtsi is well known for it architecture and academic centres.....the University, International Medical Academy and National
Music Academy, so there are many young people here which gives the city 'a life of its own', but with a slow 'pace of life' that is so relaxed and noticeable from other larger, busier cities.
So, if you want your stay to have a party flavour you can visit one of the many Nightclubs here....or if you just want to relax on one of the 5 Squares in the centre and have a coffee, beer or something to eat.....it is all possible.....and all within easy reach.

Location	Directions from Chernivtsi railway station: Walk out of the railway station cross over the road and turn left up the hill. Walk for about 2 minuets and when you see the TANK take the right fork. Walk for 1 minuet and you will see a crossroads go straight ahead walk for 1 minuet and you will see a big yellow church. Take the right turn at the church and we are the first court yard entrance that you will see. Walk into the court yard and you will see a brown door with 4 bells press number 4. When you have been buzzed in please walk up the stairs and along the balcony that doesn’t have windows. If you are stood on the side of the church please cross over and look at the courtyard entrance. If you go past the church you have gone too far! Please walk back a bit If you are in a court yard that doesn’t have a big tree in the centre of it, you are in the wrong place! Directions from Chernivtsi bus station: With your back to the bus station turn right and proceed along the main road continue along this road and you will walk past the football stadium and Main Park. Do not turn off this road! Follow the road and you will pass a large white church on your Right hand side. Continue along the road and you will start to go down hill. Halfway down the hill is a crossroads take the left turning and the Blue town hall should be to your left continue along this road until you arrive at the junction with the large white cinema on your right hand side. Take the right hand turning at the cinema and proceed downhill until you see a large yellow church, Stop and with your back to the church look at the first courtyard entrance on the street! Then follow the same instructions as arriving by train, you only need to turn 4 times from the bus station to our entrance Right Left Right Left. Or alternatively get in a taxi at the bus station ask for Plosha Philamoni and show the driver the address, it should cost between 10 and 20h.

A Breath of fresh air I booked in to this hostel for 1 night but had such a great time in Chernivtsi and the hostel i stopped for 4 days. Chernivtsi is a very understated city and well worth a visit.
