The Hostelz.com Review
Sleep-in Heaven is not at all comfy or conveniently located, and it's more like an army barracks than a home away from home.

The Location

To get to this hostel from the airport or train station take bus 250S in the direction of Buddinge and get off at H.C. Orsteds V. Take the first right onto Kapelvej and turn left into the alley just after Kapelvej 44. Come out the back end of the alley and the hostel in on the corner of the street. The hostel is technically located in Copenhagen but it isn't really conveniently located to any of the sights or nightlife. The area seems more or less safe but exercise caution when walking at night.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The front door to the hostel is open during the day and none of the rooms have locks. The rooms themselves are pretty terrible. There are twelve-plus beds per room -- some of them stacked three high -- and you are assigned a bed, so you might end up on the top bunk, literally climbing a ladder to the ceiling. Bed linen is not provided and must either be brought with you or rented upon arrival. Another note about the bunks is that they don't have guard rails to keep you from rolling off. The rooms are rather cramped and chilly. There isn't much space for luggage but there are lockers in the hall for everyone to use. Overall the rooms just feel like an army barracks, with about the same level of cleanliness.

The bathrooms are clean enough but my no means spotless. There are four sinks, two toilets, and four showers in the coed bathroom. The showers are just a large compartment, so you need to leave your clothes and towel on the other side of the shower where they won't get wet.

Common Spaces

In the common area of this hostel are plenty of couches and tables and chairs. There is also a pool table, a couple of free public computers, and Wi-Fi that is spotty at best. Breakfast is available for a fee as is beer in the evenings. Smoking isn't allowed in the hostel but there is an outdoor patio area if you're willing to brave the temperature. There is also outdoor luggage storage so you can drop your bags off before check-in or leave them after 10 a.m. check-out. There always seems to be a lot of people at this hostel but mostly they stick to the groups they came in. It isn't the most social place for a single traveler, but groups of people do occasionally blend over a game of pool or a beer.

Summary

We've heard from outside sources that this is one of the best hostels in Copenhagen but we'd like to compare to somewhere else just to be sure. The rooms themselves are not great at all but if all you're looking for is a bed for a couple of hours a night, this place is passable. The staff are really friendly and helpful with whatever you might need, which almost makes up for other things this hostel lacks.

A lot of whining going on here.... "It's noisy" - Whatya expect when you are staying in a dorm, everyone going to bed at the same time as yourself? Choose The Radison next time. I've stayed at Sleep In Heaven 5-6 times, and I find it quite fair for the price payed. Sure, I have stayed in a lot better hostels for the same price (not in Cph though... but there are a lot worse ones... ), I find it satisfying. Showers are a bit sparse, I'd give you that.. But that has never been a problem for me or my fellow travellers coz we are Swedes and just as the Icelandic guy, we go to bed late and get up late when out partying :-) The old huge dorm is gone, but even that one wasn't too bad. If you want 100 percent comfort and a guaranteed full nights sleep, stay at home!

4 We love Mary!
Beds were comfy, rooms were small, but what do you expect for that price? Toilets and showers were fine, just not many of them. Good location but hard to find, make sure you get explicit directions, about a twenty-minute walk to the centre of the city. Look out for the Mexican restaurant around the corner! Only problem was having to listen to the sounds of lovemaking in our tiny dorm. Otherwise good!

3 Ok, tiny rooms, tiny bathroom
This hostel has got to have the smallest rooms ever. I'm sure submarines aren't this cramped. There's no room to put your stuff, which become a major pain. Also there's two toilets and three showers for everyone. Lucky I get up earlier than most people! It's also twenty minutes' walk from town, which is ok but not great. On the plus side it was quite friendly and the staff were helpful.

4 I've stayed here twice, and both times it was awesome! The staff is friendly, the bar is good, and the beds are comfy. The only problem was the drunken Icelanders who stumbled in at four in the morning and started singing, but then again, we Icelanders have a reputation to live up to.

4 I liked the place. Sure, the rooms are small, but what are you looking for at that price? Friendly and helpful staff. Very international, fairly easy to find, decent location. four stars.

4 I stayed at Sleep-in Hostel in 2003 and found it to be pretty nice. I have heard it underwent renovation so it might or might not, depending on what was changed, have improved. When I first arrived I was surprised to find out that it was a huge room with like three hundred beds or so clustered into cubicles that made a room. Originally the place had been an old bread factory that they turned into a hostel. I did, however, manage to get some sleep and my stuff was not tampered with. The major drawback was using the bathroom in the morning and trying to shower -- huge lines of people waiting their turn. Best bet if you plan on using the shower is to wait until you arrive back in the evening when there is less demand for the shower. I did meet some really nice people there and shared some excellent stories. The bar area was really nice. It was also located in an interesting part of Copenhagen, the locals were extremely friendly, I met some locals with whom I travelled to Christiania with during the day. Also the hostel is pretty hidden, it took me awhile to find it, but once you find it you know where it is for the entire time you stay. All and all a pretty nice place, although don't know what it is like now, because I have heard that it changed.

1 sleep in heaven - my ass! Me and my friend slept there for four nights, it was the cheapest place that was open we could find - turned out to be a big mistake. Would gladly have payed a bit more if I knew that the rooms were really tiny, and the lamps didn't make it lighter at all, the toilets were really gross and the showers barely gave any water at all.. It's practicly impossible to get any sleep, since the beds are not comfortable at all, people keep coming in and out of the rooms, and it's really noisy.. If you're thinking of going to copenhagen, don't live at sleep in heaven unless you're gonna share your room with only people you know, and you plan to spend very little time there, sleeping.

3 A cheap place to stay, if you travel with no great expectations. I slept in a 6-bedroom, which was ok. They have only one unisex washroom with 3 separate showers, which was far too few for 50 people who want to take a shower in the morning. Breakfast is lousy, but there are tons of nice breakfast cafes close by. I actually couldn't make out the 80 people-dorm mentioned by other travelers in their comments, so maybe the staff did make some changes to the hostel's interior architecture. The common room is great, you can play pool, have free Internet access, lounge music and a nice open terrace where you can chill if weather is good. By European standards it's lower average, but I have seen much worse places on my travels so come and check it out for yourself.

1 The hostel is not good, but you have to see it as a cheap place to sleep and take a shower in Copenhagen — just that! The problem is that some of my stuff was stolen from inside my locker (which was locked!!!). Very astonished (and angry), I went to the front desk to ask what could have happened. There I found out that they have a spare key for each locker and the one from mine was there, so, they could do nothing! Well, I guess that just the people that work at the hostel have access to the spare keys, otherwise they should be more careful and responsible!

1 Yes, "sleep in hell"...or not sleep at all. Unless you come with 25 friends and want to stay (I say "stay", not "sleep") in the same room, go somewhere else. For that price you'll be closer to the center, with less than 86 people in your room, more than 2 showers for those, and you'll get the light turned off.

1 "Sleep-in Hell" are the first words that come to my mouth. This is the worst hostel I came across in the whole of my life, and you can be sure I've been places. First of all, the location is lousy, the staff rude, it has one sh*t-huge dorm, and even people who stayed there seemed wicked. It's really a shame for Copenhagen that in the low season this is the only budget place in operation. Shame.

3 Staying here is kind of like sleeping in a homeless shelter — all of the beds are in one massive room, stacked in sets of three. It can get noisy, often smells like weed, and is far from luxury. But it's cheap for Copenhagen, and some earplugs will go a long way towards making getting some rest an accomplishable goal. The good points of this place are awesome though — friendly staff, lots of good Middle Eastern take-away food in the neighborhood, free (big) lockers, and a great common area with cheap beer, comfy couches, pool, and lots of people. I met wonderful travelers during my stay here, and had a blast every evening just hanging out and talking with people.

1 This place was loud and crappy; not a sleep-in heaven at all.

4 This is a good place! It's a nice place to meet people, drink beers, save money, and to sleep, of course, after nights at Stensgade 30 and Rust, my favorite night clubs in Copenhagen, which are both very close to the hostel. This place is in a good location; Stroget (the shopping area) is only 1 km away.

4 Okay, I was lucky. I stayed in the smaller dorm, but I can imagine that people complain about the huge dorm. The staff were very friendly, and this hostel has the best common area I've seen in ages, with a courtyard terrace. It's a good place to meet people and challenge them to a game of pool. There is Internet access, and some nice bars in the neighbourhood.
