Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
5  Welcoming, hospitable, and clean I visited this hostel late summer 2009 and was very impressed by its top-notch hospitality, friendliness, and most notably its impeccable cleanliness. I've stayed at a few hostels in my day, and have admittedly had to "bite the bullet" sometimes when it came time to take a shower or use the kitchen; not the case with this one. You detect the wafting aroma of clean the moment you enter and it never goes away. The other major selling point of this hostel is its price, $16/night at the time of this review. I'd planned to stay at an area campground ($15/night) before I luckily stumbled upon the Hiker Hostel. For $1 more per night I received all the aforementioned benefits as well as a hearty, delicious family-style breakfast each morning and the knowledgeable owners of the hostel even gave me some leads on nearby hiking areas, which were spot-on. I would fully recommend this hostel.  , United States ()
5  Great base camp for hiking in the mountains This was a really great hostel experience. The breakfast was hearty and fresh, the hosts were laid back and personable, and the accommodations friendly and comfortable. The room is pretty basic, but comfortable, and there are TV's, videos, books, and internet access, as well as a nice back porch, where you can hang out with other guests. This hostel attracts a lot of large groups and also a number of Appalachian Trail thru hikers, since it's located quite close to Amicalola State Park and the approach trail to Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. There's a wall of picture postcards from successful thru hikers who began their journey at the Hiker Hostel. The hosts are thru hikers and the theme here is hiking and biking. There is plenty to do in this region. For a fee, the hosts will provide transportation to/from Atlanta airport and Amicalola, so no vehicle is required, but if you come by car, there are many attractions including historic Dahlonega, Helen, and the Chattahoochee River, as well as the state park. Overall, I give my thumbs up. This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in and I had a great time.  , USA ()
