1  Bedbugs! I stayed there one night a week ago and woke up covered in bites! Make sure you ask to see the room and check the sheets before you stay here or anywhere else! BEDBUGS!  , Canada ()
4  Great I stayed here for a week. Good place if your looking to meet other travelers. Food is great. Drinks at the bar were insanely cheap. Location in Antigua is perfect. Staff, especially the some tall guy the manager, were so helpful and nice. Dont expect the ritz, but its a good place to lay low a few nights. Wish there was laundry though.  , UK ()
2  Stay here if you don't need sleep A party place with a loud bar (which closes at 10 p.m.). It has a great, free breakfast, which alone is worth about half the price of the room. It also has a good location. However, when I was there, there were two bathrooms for all the guests in all the dorms, and those weren't great. My roommates would talk from 2 to 4 a.m. I soon moved to a place where I could get more than three hours' sleep a night. Overall, I can't recommend this place, though it is not terrible.  , London ()
3  Ok, basic, great staff It was ok. Clean and friendly staff and a great breakfast included. Basic and all right. I got no bugs in my bed.  , Sweden ()
1  Bedbugs Beware! I stayed here for one night in July and left with bedbugs! I met other weary travels in town who had also stayed at El gato negro and also got bedbugs. My room, unlucky number thirteen, was up a very attic steps. We had to pass through the laundry area, where sheets were hung out on clothes lines to dry (even though it rained every day). We had to touch every clean sheet to move them out of our way as we walked through to our room. Our door did not close and our window looked into an indoor courtyard where smoking was allowed. There were seven people packed into bunk beds in a tiny room. The ceilings were too low for the beds and the mattresses were extremely lumpy! The shared bathrooms were often out of service due to flooding. Not to mention, getting bitten by bugs all night.  , USA ()
4  Clean and friendly place I stayed here for two nights and thought it was a good place to stay and good value. The price of 55 Q includes a really good fresh breakfast off their menu. Antigua is more expensive than other places in Guatemala so you will be paying more for drinks. The hostel was clean and we had an en-suite bathroom in our dorm room, which was very nice, however not all the rooms had this.  , Canada ()
