The Hostelz.com Review
A converted residential building, with many rooms offering a balcony. There is a large common area with a bar, a bunch of tables, and a foosball table (table soccer) and there are usually a lot of people hanging out there. On the negative side, the bathrooms aren't very good (poor lighting, no shower hooks, cheap toilet paper), internet access is expensive, and the nearest phone is three blocks away. Other than that, it is a bright and fun hostel and not a bad choice overall.
It's located in what was East Berlin, close to the longest remaining stretch of the wall. Breakfast is offered for €3 and some rooms have their own showers.

Some great times. I stayed in this hostel on two separate occasions in 2005. The staff are amazing and generous, the rooms generally big and bright, and the common room was a great place to meet people. I made a lot of friends there, and encourage anyone to stay. It is a long way away from the center (but there are districts of the city closer that are more worthwhile anyways), but that is what you have feet for, or the overground. — Christian , USA (2009-02-20)

I stayed here about 3 years ago. It was very clean and the facilites were good. The only down side was that i didn't find the reception staff that helpful or friendly; i felt that if i asked them anything that i was being a nuisance. The room i stayed in was a good size and had a shower in which was clean and enough hot water. The communual toilets were clean, but people were blocking them up every morning which wasn't very pleasant, although the cleaning staff there sorted it straight away; i didn't envy them their job! I would recommend this hostel if you want to party and make lots of noise, but if you want somewhere nice and quiet then maybe it's not the best choice. — amanda (2006-05-17)

This place is cheap, organized and has a great location. It's not the fanciest hostel you'll stay at, but it's worth considering. It does have a bit of a party atmosphere, but you should still be able to grab a good night's sleep as I always do. It's getting a little tatty and could use a brush up, but the great staff will help you overlook that. The bathrooms are always clean; the rooms are clean and I've met some great people here. The only reservation problem I've had was when I booked a last-minute double room the night before arrival. They thought they had availability and didn't, so instead they upgraded us to our own apartment for the price of a double. The apartment was beautiful and should definitely be considered if you're travelling with a group or with your family. Very nice people. — Emily (2005-04-29)

We loved this place!! We got our laundry done and had a hot clean shower everyday. We stayed in a dorm style room. Beautiful colors, and incredibly cozy beds. There is a great pub right across the street. — Anonymous (2005-04-16)

The building itself was ok. It was like two buildings in one with a small courtyard in the middle. My friends and I got the apartment, which was ok. There was a reception that acted as the bar and a little meeting area. It really was just for brief talking, not a party scene. The neighborhood it is in is the East and it is on the border of development. Go too far and you're in a Soviet-style ghetto. Also there is a lovely, dumpy, old Soviet stockyard across the street. There is a supermarket near by and the Matrix club is at the local train station. There are a few bars nearby but that is it. It is rather far from everything in Berlin. Personally, I'd suggest you go elsewhere. — Scott (2005-04-12)
We were supposed to get a private room, but got shoved in with a bunch of people for the price of a private room. The place was noisy and located way out of the way. — Jason W (2004-12-05)
We got a private room and it was small and smelled of mildew. Thank goodness Berlin is such an interesting city, with tons to do. We never wanted to come home to this hostel. — Anonymous (2004-09-28)
It was loud and the room was barren. We got a private room but anyone could've broken down the particle board-like door. The walls were dirtied with blackened and old hand prints from previous tenants. Instead of a closet, we got a metal locker with one wire hanger. There were no dresser drawers. This place is good if you're used to being homeless or a squatter. The only upside was that the staff were friendly and they all spoke English. The staff are not great enough to save this place. It should be called a "hostile" and not a hostel. — Anonymous (2004-09-28)

One of the coolest hostels I have stayed in. It has lots of interesting people, a party atmosphere and brightly colored comfortable rooms. It's located in an interesting part of the city. The staff were great too. — Anonymous (2004-06-16)
