Sunflower Hostel Berlin

Hostelz.com's Review

Sunflower Hostel Berlin is located in East Berlin, just a few blocks away from the city center. The hostel is extremely vibrant and lively, and is known for its young and creative vibe. The hostel has a very friendly and motivated staff, a bar, laundry faculties, and an-all-you-can-eat breakfast.

The Location

The hostel is located in the neighborhood Friedrichshain, which is well known for its young and creative atmosphere. The hostel is situated between plenty of bars, clubs, cafes, and galleries. The neighborhood is very friendly and outgoing, so you feel very safe being there. The hostel is very easy to find -- it's located right on a corner and has a large "Sunflower Hostel" sign up on the building. Public transit is nearby and it only takes about five minutes to get to the major tourist areas in Berlin, such as the Brandenburg Gate.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are open and fairly large, and are kept very clean. The rooms accommodate up to eight guests at once, and they're very cozy and comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily, and so are the bathrooms. The showers are in a room that doesn't have a lock on the door, so you can feel uncomfortable. The toilets are in their own separate rooms, so there is more security. The showers water pressure is horrible, and the temperature is too cold, but that's the only negative about the hostel.

Common Spaces

For common spaces, the hostel has an open lobby and a bar; both spaces are very bright and artistic, to match the lively neighborhood the hostel is situated in. Most guests hang out in the bar, so it's very easy to meet new people from around the world and to just grab a drink. In the mornings, the sitting area in the lobby can get pretty crowded, especially because there's an all-you-can-eat buffet every morning.

Sunflower Hostel is an amazing hostel to stay at in Berlin. Friedrichshain is a great neighborhood, especially if you're young. The hostel has a positive, bright atmosphere, and the staff are always willing to help you with anything. There's free Wi-Fi, discounted prices to local clubs, free lockers, and plenty of other great services. If you're young and traveling on a budget, this is the hostel for you.

Lovely place with a hip vibe
Common area is great. It has character, wi-fi, a bar, laundry, and foosball. Staff are friendly and helpful. location is in the middle of a hip neighborhood full of restaurants, clubs, and groceries. It's also a 5 minute walk for the trains. cost was very cheap during my stay. Room doors are thin and a lot of noise cuts right through them. Being in a hip location means people are coming back to the rooms at all hours of the night. Consider a private room if this will bother you.

Hostel is a Money sucking machine
Everything was overpriced. You can get cheaper beer at the overpriced convenient stores near tourist areas. Water was ridiculously overpriced. There is NO WIFI in the rooms. You have to go down to the lobby to use WIFI. You are charged for using their computers to use the internet. It is not free. The vending machine didnt have much of a choice and everything there was overpriced. The bathrooms are not cleaned enough for all the people that stay there. Do not stay here.
It was best place For traveler finding cheap price.

Some great times.
I stayed in this hostel on two separate occasions in 2005. The staff are amazing and generous, the rooms generally big and bright, and the common room was a great place to meet people. I made a lot of friends there, and encourage anyone to stay. It is a long way away from the center (but there are districts of the city closer that are more worthwhile anyways), but that is what you have feet for, or the overground.
A converted residential building, with many rooms offering a balcony. There is a large common area with a bar, a bunch of tables, and a foosball table (table soccer) and there are usually a lot of people hanging out there. On the negative side, the bathrooms aren't very good (poor lighting, no shower hooks, cheap toilet paper), internet access is expensive, and the nearest phone is three blocks away. Other than that, it is a bright and fun hostel and not a bad choice overall. It's located in what was East Berlin, close to the longest remaining stretch of the wall. Breakfast is offered for €3 and some rooms have their own showers.
I stayed here about 3 years ago. It was very clean and the facilites were good. The only down side was that i didn't find the reception staff that helpful or friendly; i felt that if i asked them anything that i was being a nuisance. The room i stayed in was a good size and had a shower in which was clean and enough hot water. The communual toilets were clean, but people were blocking them up every morning which wasn't very pleasant, although the cleaning staff there sorted it straight away; i didn't envy them their job! I would recommend this hostel if you want to party and make lots of noise, but if you want somewhere nice and quiet then maybe it's not the best choice.
This place is cheap, organized and has a great location. It's not the fanciest hostel you'll stay at, but it's worth considering. It does have a bit of a party atmosphere, but you should still be able to grab a good night's sleep as I always do. It's getting a little tatty and could use a brush up, but the great staff will help you overlook that. The bathrooms are always clean; the rooms are clean and I've met some great people here. The only reservation problem I've had was when I booked a last-minute double room the night before arrival. They thought they had availability and didn't, so instead they upgraded us to our own apartment for the price of a double. The apartment was beautiful and should definitely be considered if you're travelling with a group or with your family. Very nice people.
We loved this place!! We got our laundry done and had a hot clean shower everyday. We stayed in a dorm style room. Beautiful colors, and incredibly cozy beds. There is a great pub right across the street.
