Youth Hostel Eva is a bright and cheery place. They have renovated nicely and everything is clean and brand new. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff are great. This hostel is no longer affiliated with HI because they didn't get enough HI guests to justify the expense of affiliation.
The Location
It's easy to find -- right in the heart of the old town. There is free parking in front of the hostel for guests with cars. Guest on bicycles are provided with secure storage for their bicycles (the hostel is very cyclist-friendly since the owners also have a cycle shop offering repairs and rentals at a discount to guests). The hostel reception hours are the same as the cycle shop. If you arrive after hours you should call ahead or book in advance so that the owners will meet you.
The area is safe and a quick walk from the train or bus. There is a grocery store just a few minutes' walk away. Restaurants and bars are within a few minutes' walk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The sleeping space is six dorm rooms with two, four, or six beds located upstairs of the common areas. Every room is en-suite. The beds are new, clean, and comfortable. Bed linens are provided to guests (but not towels). Nice, new bathrooms with good lighting are spotlessly clean. Fresh, bright paint adds to the appeal. There are huge lockers for storage.
Common spaces
On the ground floor, in addition to the reception area is a large common area with a kitchen, lounge, and television for guest use. It is a very homey and friendly space for guests to socialize in a non-smoking atmosphere. The owners seems very eager to please their guests by making recommendations for day trips and providing transportation schedules. They have Wi-Fi available. There is laundry available for a fee. There is heating but no AC.
Summary
This hostel would be ideal for bikers traveling though Slovenia who might need a good night's rest and some cycle repairs as the owners are experts with bikes. All the staff are friendly and helpful and want backpackers to enjoy their stay here. They can arrange just about anything that you might need. It is a good value for the money in this charming town.
