The Hostelz.com Review
For a stopover on the way to St. John or Québec City and a walk along the river, HI - Woodstock - Capitol Square Residence Hostel is a perfect spot. Since there is not so much around Woodstock, not many people stay overnight there. The building hosts a small and quiet HI downstairs (sleeps about fifteen people) and students apartments upstairs.
The Location
The hostel is situated on a parking area just a couple hundred meters from the Thames River. Since the street is a dead end there is hardly any traffic. Downtown is just five minutes' walking distance away and there are lots of free parking spaces in front of the hostel. Shops, bars, and restaurants are nearby but if you want dance clubs you will have to find another place to stay overnight.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel has single and double rooms, but you will pay no more than for a dorm bed in other hostels for the single room. You will get free linen and sheets for the bed, but no free breakfast in the morning. The rooms, the kitchen, and the bathrooms are all clean and tidy. Security seems to be very good, with locking doors for each room as well as the front door of the hostel.
Common Spaces
There is a common area with couches and a TV to relax. As well they do have free internet and free wireless with a good connection. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. There is a dispenser for sweets and drinks in the common area, which is after a while annoying, since the machine for the drinks is noisy while cooling the beverages all the time.
Summary
This hostel is a good place to stay for a night or two when you want to have a rest from a ten-bed dorm with snoring or packing-and-unpacking travelers. It is clean, tidy, and secure, but in small town with not so much to do.
