Not recommended No lightbulb in the room and curtainless window in ceiling meant an early night and and even earlier wake up. Sheets did not seem particularly clean and the drying room smelled so bad you wouldnt even want to leave your shoes in there. Our host left shortly after we arrived (around 5) announcing abruptly as she left there would be no cooked breakfast the following morning as there weren't enough people to make it worth her while coming in. Dreadful atmosphere in the place; was so glad to leave. The worst place we stayed on the whole coast to coast, certainly the worst youth hostel. — Anonymous (2011-06-14)

Youth hostel not a backpackers! The first thing to note about this place is that it is definitely a traditional youth hostel and not a backpackers, which means that it is a clean, comfortable, and basic place to lay down your head for the night and is aimed at hikers, cyclists. There is a common room, guests kitchen, and shared bathrooms. Don't expect mod cons, hot & cold running, internet, and a chic bar like many city hostels! There are a couple of pubs and a small supermarket in Kirkby Stephen village. The train station is a 20 to 30 minute walk away! — Martin , UK (2010-06-05)
