The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Blues is a big, newly renovated, modern hostel.

The Location

The hostel is in a good location, close enough to the historical centre of Bratislava to walk and not too far from the main train and bus stations. The hostel is located on one of the main roads leading to the centre so there is easy access to trams and taxis.

Rooms and Bathrooms

We stayed in a female dorm, which was clean and quite spacious. Each bed has its own large locker. The bathroom and the toilet are in the hallway. When you are in the dorm, you can hear everything when someone is using the bathroom or passing through the hallway, but I'm sure, as the hostel is quite new, that this will change as things improve. Also, the bunk beds are very wobbly. We heard that they have double bunk beds in dorm rooms, too, which might be fine if you're part of a couple but not so great if you're single and sharing the room, especially if the bed wobbles!

Common Spaces

The hostel receptionists are friendly and helpful and reception provides a daily list of things going on in the city such as exhibitions to see or clubs to go to at night. The kitchen and reception area are close together so there is a good social atmosphere around it. There is also internet and a nice sitting area beside the reception where you can meet other people.

Summary

Overall, for a pretty big hostel, it's nice enough and we'd recommend it.

Stayed here in August '08 and it's definitely one of the better hostels I've stayed at. Bedrooms were large, beds were large, and the rooms were quite clean. Lockers in the room for a deposit fee for the padlock and key, and the lockers are quite big compared to what we had seen. Linen was amazing on the beds, ha ha, yes we had been slumming it but for a hostel the standards were quite good. Bathrooms for each of the rooms inside each apartment and they were quite clean and not too cramped. The staff were quite friendly, not all that helpful, knowledgeable or efficient but friendly nonetheless. Two computers with free internet were fast and worked the whole time we were there. The kitchen is amazing, biggest, newest and cleanest kitchen we'd seen, made our meals a whole lot cheaper, and there's an amazing enormous Tesco right across the road which was really cheap too. Two fridges for everything, eight new electrical stoves, plenty of cookingware and essential food is there to share also. Overall it was a good stay however it wasnt exactly the cheapest hostel we'd seen, but then again none in Bratislava are.
