The Hostelz.com Review
Instituto Gould is a hostel-style hotel that is run by the Anglican Church. This makes for a very quiet and peaceful place to stay. It is not a social hostel by any means -- most guests are either families or large groups of students studying abroad.

Some people say that this is a creepy place to stay. It is very quiet and dark at night, which is only a big deal if you're if you're afraid of such things. Locationwise, it is south of the river. However, it's only fifteen to twenty minutes' walk to the tourist sites on the north side of the river -- and, being in Florence, the walk is quite nice. The benefits of being a bit removed from the tourist areas are quaint coffee shops, little groceries, and a lot better prices.

There are very few amenities included in your stay -- no breakfast, internet, kitchen, refrigerator, or anything else, and the prices are a bit high. However, the rooms are quite nice and everything is immaculately clean. The staff are polite and rather helpful, but you see very little of them. If you simply want a place to collapse in peace at the end of a very long day of sightseeing, and you have little demands for you hostel, this is absolutely the place for you.

Perfect location and very clean!
I've visited this hostel twice now, and I would absolutely recommend it for everyone traveling to Florenze! It's very clean, the rooms are big enough, and the location is perfect. It's not in the middle of the city, but in walking distance (ten minutes to the Ponte Vecchio). Very close to Palazzo Pitti and Piazzo Santo Spirito.

This was our first trip to Florence and the hostel was very easy to find. It is located in a very accesible neighborhood. Everything you want to see is at a walking distance. The rooms were very neat and clean, the staff was friendly, and the security amazing! No elevator though, so if you're traveling with heavy suitcases ask for a room in a low floor.

At the prices offered, can not be beaten. Great location. Rooms were fantastic, really large, high ceilings and very clean. We had a room facing the street and had no problems with noise. Limited reception hours are a small concession.

Great youth hostel. I stayed here for five days at the end of August. It's quiet and clean. People are friendly and it's very central. Piazza Santa Spirito is almost around the corner. NO breakfast but there is a nice Italian bar a little bit further towards the river.

I've stayed here twice, once with a large group and once by myself. I felt comfortable and safe both times. The prices and location can't be beat!

We have stayed at the Instituto Gould twice now. I think we in fact had the same room both times! Compared to Rome the noise from the street is nothing. There really isn't a need to get a taxi or bus from the train station. It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk on the other side of the Arno. The location makes getting to the Pitti Palace and Church of the Carmine quite easy. No meals are provided, but the place is clean, clean, clean.

Clean, efficient. The only downsides are that the reception isn't open much, and you'll need earplugs if you've got a room on the street.

Clean, central, and comfortable. The only time in a month of traveling that my friends and I had our own bathroom. The only downside is that it feels quite institutional and isn't very social. However, it is very quiet. Overall, I would definitely recommend it!

Inexpensive, clean, relatively safe and in a great location. I stayed there for 5 nights in July. So very hot, but still comfortable. The rooms on the street can be noisy, but bring your ear plugs and you will be fine! I would definitely stay here again because of its cleanliness and great location for a reasonable price. Enjoy!

Perfect place near to the centre. Rooms are spotless (though some of them can be noisy) and cheap, the staff is friendly.

I lived in this hostel while studying in Florence for 7 weeks and I loved it! It's close to the Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace/Boboli Gardens and it's just a short walk to the center of town. We get the feel of daily Italian life in a quiet little place, where the excess profits of the hostel go to provide a program for area children. I couldn't say ENOUGH great things about the place!

This was an absolutely fantastic place to stay, quiet, clean, cheap and within easy reach of all of Florence's attractions. I would recommend this hostel to anyone. If you get a chance check out the garden at the back.

I stayed here with 2 friends last spring (2002). We had a private room with bathroom & 3 beds for only 20 euros each! The location wasn't bad, and we walked to and from train station and all around town without ever taking a bus. I strongly recommend this hostel.
