A national disgrace of worst bigoted kind
Kicked out a group of Aboriginal women on the pretext that the hostel is for international visitors only. This is absolute crap. There is nothing that says it is not for traveling Aussies, and indeed my sixty-plus parents stayed there without ever being told that they weren't welcome because they were Australian. Instead of apologising unconditionally, they have tried to justify discriminatory behaviour. Don't go near them.

Disgusting!
Totally disgusted at the racist behaviour of this hostel. I will never recommend this hostel to anyone. Very poor form!

Not very good
I am utterly disgusted to hear this morning's national news about racism from this establishment. I was born in Alice Springs and never knew that this place was for international tourists. I can't find that criteria on the web site. I will never recommend this place to anyone again. I thought that racism was buried since the "sorry" day. Expect a backlash from this!

Racist Management
In March 2008 Haven Hostel refused a room to a group of young Aboriginal women visiting Alice from a remote community for swimming lessons. Why? Because of the colour of their skin! The Haven Hostel released a statement saying, "Haven Hostel is a backpackers' hostel catering for international backpacking tourists, which the group was not."

Don't stay at this racist hostel
Aboriginal guests were kicked out because of the colour of their skin.

Media Reporting of Racism
Lateline news reported that group of young Aboriginal women with young children were booked into this hostel by the Australian life saving association. They were turned away by the hostel management based on comments by international tourists. Good to see racism is alive and well. And I will be posting this at my University to all international students who may want to visit any Haven resort to avoid them like the plague. Disgusting.

Wow, a clean and modern hostel! By far the best I've stayed in yet.
Wow, so clean and new. i's great to stay somewhere with such high standards, they've thought of everything. indoor and outdoor kitchen. finally somewhere to have that great aussie bbq! they have a great TV lounge with a massive TV and free breakfast from 5 a.m., which was great as my tour left at 5 a.m. -- so close to town as well.
