Description
El Bolson is a small mountain city located at the southeast of Rio Negro province in the Argentine Andean Patagonia. It is situated in a valley with forests, clear rivers, lakes, waterfalls and meadows, and surrounded by high mountains with snow-covered peaks. The vast Cordillera de los Andes is located west El Bolson, bordering Chile. It is a tourist and producer city. Main production consists of hops, dry flowers and fine fruit, and manufacturing of beer, liqueur and jam. It is a quiet place, formed by a quite singular society: tourism service providers, craftsmen, producers, artists and peasants, many of them foreigners from all over the world or their descendants. There is also a "mapuche" indian reservation, peacefully integrated to El Bolson community. El Bolsón has been declared " Ecological Town" and "No Nuclear Area".
Sport/adventure activities offered: rafting, canoeing, dry-fly fishing, diving, climbing, cross-country skiing, horse riding, trekking, paragliding, aviation, among others; and also a variety of cultural activities like theatre, painting and sculpture exhibitions.
Places to be visited: mountain refuges, Bosque Tallado, Rio Azul, Cabeza del Indio, Cascada Escondida, handmade beer and organic dairy product plants, Lago Pueblo and others. You can also visit a popular regional fair where local crafts and handmade food are offered.
El Bolson appearance changes significantly according to the season of the year: in the summer is warm and colorful and in the winter is cold and offers a beautiful snow-covered landscape.
Altos del Sur Hostel is located on the Piltriquitron Hill slope, on the way to Bosque Tallado and a mountain refuge, surrounded by a vast native forest with streams, offering a panoramic view of the Cordillera de los Andes. Atmosphere is warm, friendly and quiet. Rooms are wide, light and comfortable. Services offered are central heating, pressurized showers, individual bedside lamps, private lockers, fully equipped kitchen, dining room with huge windows offering the Cordillera views, grocery, free car park, TV, free internet access, etc.
