Good I am planning to go back to Brasil and was looking for the hostel were I had an excellent time in 2005 and 2006 but I don't find it anymore in the travel guides and I don't understand why? Now I read this reviews I don't understand. When I stayed there its was a very nice, friendly hostel and I had a very good time with everybody there also with the owner. So I don't know whats happened since then? — ils , belgium (2011-05-29)

When I went, in November 2003. this hostal was an oasis. It was welcoming. They spoke Spanish, English and of course Portuguese, and organised tours around Rio, including one great trip to the Maracana stadium in which they paid the taxis because they were late! Everyone there was friendly and it was a great way to meet local Brazilians. But I hear it's under new management now, and the manager is a wanker. Sh*t happens. — Huw (2007-01-04)
I am/was not a guest at this hostel but live across the street and feel it is my duty to warn anyone thinking of staying here that you have a very good chance of catching dengue fever. Recently, the hostel installed a new watertank up the back, and has not put the mandatory cover over it. This is a happy breeding ground for mosquitoes and Rio currently has a dengue epidemic. If you get bitten, the disease may take 2 weeks to show. If by then you feel ill and go to a doctor not accustomed to dealing with dengue, he may recommend simple aspirin, which could end up killing you. I have personally complained three times to hostel staff and they don't care: the owner has done nothing about it. I see an earlier comment from January this year says the place is filthy... now here we are in February, and you might get dengue. So I agree, avoid it. I'm leaving town anyway... — Margaret Moss (2006-02-13)
Two years ago I stayed in this hostel. I came back waiting for a warm welcome but things have changed a lot with the new owner/manager. Now it's kind of a rundown place. It's dirty (the mattress smells really bad), no fun at all, has dirty toilets, few facilities, and an unfriendly owner (just a silly kid). Definitely not the same cool atmosphere. AVOID IT! — John Ward (2005-01-20)

Great place to stay. The couple running it are very friendly. There's great interaction between everyone that stays here. The couple running it even organised a night out together with whoever wanted to join them. They brought us into the heart of Rio. We had a wild night. Great craic (conversation). You'd be mad if you chose not to stay here. — Sarah (2003-07-01)

Had the very best time here. It's a very social environment. The staff is excellent and I can't say for the other languages, but their English is perfect. Good price & location. The front rooms can be noisy at night since buses drive right past them. And they can be rather hot too. I highly recommend the place. — Luke (2003-06-13)
