The Hostelz.com Review
The word paradise was invented to describe Orsman's Bay Lodge. Built on the beachfront, surrounded by palm trees and crystal clear waters, it has to be one of the prettiest places in the world. A band of welcome singers -- bearing refreshing glasses of fruit juice and smiles -- waits to greet every guest. Once you step onto the island you are on "Bula Time" -- there is no rush, no hassle, just relaxation.

The long, thin dorm houses around sixteen beds, each with their own fly net. For those with more cash to spare, you can rent a private bure. The bathroom facilities are clean but limited, and like most hostels in Fiji they have cold water showers. Probably most spectacular are the common areas -- beautiful gardens, long white sandy beaches, and covered bure areas away from the sun.

But beware -- this hostel exepts no cash, only credit cards. Try to set up a tab when you first arrive so you don't get charged for each transaction. It's slightly more pricey than other hostels in the Yasawa islands but well worth the money for a little touch of paradise.

We stayed in April 2004. When an Austrailian holiday film crew arrived the natives pushed the boat out in the entertainment dept. If you take the boat snorkelling trip, follow Joe, you'll see how to spear fish the native way. Downside was the flies that bite your lower legs after dusk, seasoned visitors wore long stockings at night.

We loved our stay at Oarsmans Bay and tears came to our eyes as we were leaving by boat in Oct 2003. We are now planning our return in March 2006 and it can't come soon enough.

My fiancé and I stayed here for nine nights, three years ago, and from all our travels it is the most memorable. Quiet, relaxing, beautiful, and friendly are just some of the words I can use to describe Oarsman's. The Yasawas are an amazing island, and the beach is superb.

I don't know if this is the best beach in the Yasawas, but it was so good for swimming and snorkeling that I did not need to be anywhere else. The water, beach, bures, and most of the staff are top-notch, and my wife and I plan to return.

This was the worst holiday we have ever had. The food was terribly average, there is nothing available to eat in-between meals, the cocktails are awful, and there is a sense of "bothering" the staff when you approach the bar at all! We had to witness a three-month old puppy be mauled to death by the two other, unpredictable house dogs. After the puppy was mauled once, I personally had to try to at least bring it water and food. Then the staff allowed the mauling to happen again, right in front of the restaurant and all the guests. I couldn't stop crying. The beach is the only thing beautiful about his place, but after all the other things, it's simply not enough. My husband and I both lost weight here, not to mention that we left depressed.

I visited this location back in July 2001 and of all the places in Fiji, it was by far the best. The staff were more than friendly, I remember Suzie and Maria the best. I would love to return and hope to soon.

My favourite place in Fiji! Warm friendly staff and such a beautiful location! I only wish I could have stayed longer. There were only cold water showers when I was there in 2001. Great food, unlike a lot of the other Fijian backpacker resorts. Lots of activities too. Highly recommend this place!
