The Hostelz.com Review
For a totally unique experience, Beachcomber with its 86-bed dorm certainly fits the bill. The resort takes up the whole island and offers a wonderful tropical get-away. On arrival (by boat - 20 mins from Denarau Marina on the mainland), a "welcome drink" of tropical fruit punch is supplied while waiting to check-in. Once check-in is complete, a key is issued (for the under-bed locker) and a member of staff is on hand to show you to your bed (after all, with 86 beds in one room it may take a while otherwise!!). The beds are immaculately made up and beach towels are supplied. The bathrooms are also spotless.

All food is included in the price of the dorm bed. This includes breakfast, morning coffee and cake, lunch, afternoon tea (more cake!) and dinner. There is also unlimited free iced water throughout the day. The meals are fantastic and operate on a buffet system so you can eat all you want to. There are a range of activities available. Free activities include snorkelling (it is possible to snorkel right off the beach although a free boat-trip operates once a day to an offshore reef) and fish-feeding. SCUBA diving, parasailing and boat trips are among the other optional activies.

When the sun goes down, the atmosphere livens up somewhat with a range of entertainment going on in the bar (complete with sand floor). This goes on until late, after which they allow the consumption of alchol purchased previously (bottles of rum can be spotted everywhere!). However, if a quiet night is in mind, this is fine too as there is a strict "quiet in the dorm" rule which most people adhere to.

It's luxury "back-packer style" and will certainly be an experience not to be forgotten in a hurry.

One of the world's best hostels
Beachcomber is a rare experience. Few hostels can claim to have their own tropical island, and fewer still can boast over thirty years' experience in catering for backpackers. Sun, sand, awesome food, and great nightlife make this a brilliant place to chill out.

Had a fantastic few days here. So many friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic and huge amount of food (all included). Reasonable drinks prices and the place is kept extremely well. The dorms were a bit cramped and very hot but you can't have everything! There are lots of activities arranged for during the day that you can take or leave. Snorkeling was also great. Highly recommended!

Fine place if you want to get your party on, the crowd is mostly Kiwi and Australian. The island is truly diminutive and if it were not for the scuba and a good book I would have died of boredom. Beware of the food though, several people got hospital requiring food/water poisoning on different days. The sanitary standards are lacking and they reuse food from breakfast to lunch and dinner and even to the next day. The Grand Bure had the most people in one room that i've ever been in, but wasn't all that bad to sleep in -- the private rooms are considerably nicer and definitely the way to go if you can split it with another person.
