Hostel Downtown - Prague

Hostelz.com's Review

HI - Prague - Hostel Downtown is an excellent place to stay and it is really located in the heart of downtown Prague. It is a great place to meet new people and to hang out, relax, or explore the city. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is ok.

The Location

Hostel Downtown is located in the historical centre of Prague, about a five-minute walk to the Wenceslas Square, a ten-minute walk to the Old Town Square as well as Charles’ Bridge, and a hundred meters away from the underground station Národní Třída line B. You can easily walk to most historical monuments in Prague centre. There are pubs, restaurants, cafés, and bars everywhere, and the nearest Tesco (located in a mall) is a three-minute walk away. The big shopping street in Prague is also only five minutes away from the hostel. Parking is very difficult and expensive near the hostel, so just search for a parking-garage/space near the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Every single room is designed in a different theme. The bathrooms and bedrooms are very clean; the bedrooms are really, really big. You get fresh towels every single day. The beds are pretty comfy and there is a table with chairs and a wardrobe in every room.

Common Spaces

The common areas are great and you can easily meet new people. The hostel provides a lot of free computers for your own personal use in the lobby, where you can also hang out and chat with people from all over the world. There is also free Wi-Fi available in the whole hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and can help you with cheap and good restaurants, bars, and nice places to go. There are also a lot of activities going on in the hostel, like free walking tours or pub crawls. The guest kitchen is also a place to hang out, meet new people, and cook together. You can also borrow plates and other utensils. The hostel has a luggage room.

The atmosphere is excellent and the hostel is very clean and comfy and in a really great location.

Great location, facilities
In an excellent location, close to the old square and restaurants. Beds and pillows were comfortable and the hostel was super clean. The cheap breakfast buffet was good too -- eggs, pancakes with jam and sugar, cucumber, coffee, tea, toast, cereal. The only thing that could make it better would be a bar! Will be back again.

Price ≠ Service
Maybe because I visited during Easter holiday, so the price is really high, need 30 euro in 6 female room per person per night, the staff of the hotel is really nice, they are willing to offer any help of you, but compare with other hostel i stayed before, about introduce the place to traveling, they are not good at it. but that is ok. the place i felt dissatisfied most, is for our room, 6 people dorm, only have 1 plug, which made me can not charging my phone and camera. Of course this happened nearly half hostels, that I have visited, but just because this time, the price is too high. So make me feel disappointed. Of course, the location, cleaning of this hostel is good.
Downtown hostel is located in a very central area, only 10 minutes walk to Prague's main central attractions. I stayed for 3 nights in a 8 beds mixed dormitory, the room was big, clean and colourful. The bathrooms were also clean and fortunately I never had to queue for using them. The people I've shared the room with where always polite and respectful. But I have to say that I wasn't very happy with the receptionist. Unfortunately I always dealt with the same girl and she didn't have good manners at all, never smiling and clearly not very happy to help and give some information. The day I left I met another guy at the reception and he was very kind and helpful giving me directions to the train station. By the way, except for the bad experience I had with that receptionist, my overall opinion of the hostel is very good and I would advice you to stay there.
