The Hostelz.com Review
Orange Hostel - Old Town Torun is a decent place to stay in Torun, but nothing spectacular.

The Location

The hostel is located in the Old Town center, so it's very convenient to get to all the sites in Torun. If you arrive in the Miasto train station, it's a short walk to the hostel. From the main train station, it's a short bus ride. The location is on a side street, so it is normally pretty quiet from outside noise. During a visit in October 2007, there was construction going on in the courtyard so it was noisy throughout the day.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There is one twelve-bed dorm room including in-room lockers and bunk beds, in addition to a variety of smaller private rooms. The dorm room has a toilet attached, but the showers are in the hall upstairs. The toilet in the dorm room is obviously not cleaned very often and smells disgusting. The upstairs toilets and showers are much cleaner, though there is some mold in the showers.

Common Spaces

There is a small sitting area next to the reception with two small, futon-like couches. There is a small kitchenette area that does not have a proper cooktop, only a hot-plate. Near the kitchen there is a table and chairs along with a small TV that gets really bad reception. There is free internet access on a very slow computer, which you have to stand up to use. A small, self-service breakfast is included, along with free tea and coffee all day long. Everyone there speaks only Polish, so you may have a hard time socializing, as we did. This is definitely not the place to go if you're looking to party.

Summary

If you're looking for a place to crash and want to be in the Old Town of Torun, this place will do the job. If you're looking for a fun, social atmosphere, keep looking.

2  One to avoid! I stayed one night in Orange Hostel and then decided to leave. We had to hunt for a member of a staff in order to even check in. Later that evening I go to brush my teeth and, on returning, notice a large (permanent) stain on my sweater that smelled of chlorine. They had obviously not bothered to rinse the basin after bleaching it. Lucky it didn't touch my skin! The following morning, we were woken up by noisy building work just outside our window (needless to say, their website doesn't mention this, nor did they mention when we phoned them in advance). Note that the "kitchen" is just a corner of the reception area (with only one hob), and the "common room" is a sofa in the same room. Also, beware that some rooms have no windows!  , English ()
4  after a few weeks (even months) on the road, a hostel like this amazing! Laundry no problem, great location, and amazing, helpful staff. Visit Torun, if only to stay here.  ()
