The Hostelz.com Review
The Yellow Rose Pension is well situated on a side street -- only a few minutes walk to the waterfront and not far from the clock tower in the centre of Canakkale. There are a variety of places to eat and supermarkets nearby, and it is close to the bus station and ferries across to Eceabat and Gallipoli. To get to the hostel you should take the first street on the left after the clock tower (if walking with the water on the right hand side of you). From here it is the first street on the right. It is a bright yellow building with a sign out the front.

The reception area is at street level, along with a computer for free internet access, a large communal area with a number of sets of tables and chairs, and a large TV screen where you can watch cable TV or the Gallipoli movie and documentary. There is also a very small kitchen area for guest use just off the communal area by the TV. It is quite basic and consists of a couple of elements, a few pots and pans, plates, and basic eating cutlery. It's not really set up for any major gourmet activity, but is a rarity in Turkey and is sufficient for making your own tea or coffee, or making a simple dinner or snacks. Outside there is also a communal courtyard with tables and chairs as well as table tennis.

Yellow Rose offers dorm beds and a range of private rooms with and without bathrooms. Most of the rooms are sunny and well-laid out with lots of space and a very homey feeling. The prices are highly competitive for this area and include free breakfast (standard Turkish style with cucumber, tomato, egg, jam, and bread with tea or coffee).

Overall the place is kept very clean and is bright and spacious. It is a great alternative to some of the more well-known and busy Canakkale hostels. It can be very quiet, but sometimes has group bookings that fill the place up, so be sure to book ahead. And if you plan on staying on longer than you originally book for, be sure to check ahead of time that there will be space -- something we learned the hard way!

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
4  Clean, well-maintained, very helpful, and nice staff I stayed at this hostel last month for one night. Accommodations were exactly as advertised, which was good, and the staff were more than advertised, which was great. Neat and clean facilities, extremely convenient location. A nice atmosphere. In addition, I hadn't bothered making reservations for tours before coming to Canakkale early in the morning. A staff person got up early to make phone calls until he found a tour that would work for me. The tours -- Troy and Gallipoli -- were great, their guides were very professional. I recommend this hostel for its accommodations, and for its friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff.  , American ()
4  Well located, spacious hostel, but quiet The information about this place on this website is accurate. This is a nice small place offering a large dorm room without bunk beds as well as other accommodation. It is very close to the quiet town and there are several interesting eateries in walking distance. The dorm cost 17 Turkish Lira per night in September 2009. though, it can be quiet, it is a nice place to relax after a day exploring the battlefields or historic Troy. I would recommend it for a couple of nights. Especially after hearing about the other hostels from fellow travelers.  , England ()
