The Hostelz.com Review
Catalina Hostel in Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona, is a very nice and very cool place to stay in. It is safe, clean, comfortable, and it has a great, lively atmosphere where you can feel relaxed and happy. It is pretty for its architecture and down to the point.
The Location
Catalina Hostel couldn't have a better location. Barcelona is small, but this hostel is located exactly in the center of the city and in a very busy, very lovely area. The street's name is Passeig de Gracia, a very long street full of cafes, restaurants, designer stores and two of Gaudi's most famous buildings -- Casa Batllo and La Pedrera. From the hostel, you can walk or take the metro to any other point in the city.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are great. They are simple and comfortable and very well cleaned. They have both private and dorm rooms. The dorm rooms have indoor lockers. There are two twelve-bed rooms with bunk beds. There is a toilet room in the hallway and a another one next to the shower rooms, where the sinks are. The showers are in good shape, with frosted doors and plenty of space to put your soap, shampoo, and other things, but there is no real private space to change.
Common Spaces
The hostel has a common area, which makes up the kitchen, the eating tables, the sitting area, and the TV room. The computers, with free internet, are just next to this area. The kitchen has two refrigerators where you can store your food, a good stove, a microwave, a sink, a decent countertop to prepare your meal, and a coffee maker. There's free cereal at all hours until the kitchen is closed at midnight. The tables are big and there's always people chatting in them. There's a TV with video game consoles and a balcony just behind it where people go out to have a cigarette and chat.
This is a very fun, very sociable, very out-going and open-minded hostel. It is almost impossible not to meet people here with whom you can hang out and get to know more places.
Summary
Even though Catalina Hostel doesn't include breakfast, it is very cheap for the good service it offers and is possibly the best hostel experience we have had yet.
