The City Chime Square is a three-story guesthouse located in the centre of the Heritage Trail area, very close to the waterfront, bus stops, and attractions, all within walking distance. This guesthouse is new -- it opened in April 2007 -- and has a lot of potential, but at the moment it's functional and a work in progress. Within six months it should have loads of character.
The entrance is down a small street and fairly easy to miss, so take care. The ground floor has the reception area full of information, the TV lounge (currently without satellite), two toilets, and the dining table where the free breakfast (bread and spreads) is laid out. Hot water for the free coffee is available all day. On the first floor there is a mix of dorms and private rooms and the shared shower and toilet. At the moment this one set also serves the dorm and private rooms on the third floor, but there are plans to build additional shower blocks this year.
The dorms are spacious and airy but unfortunately the second floor dorm faces the church with working bells that inspired the guesthouse -- the bells chime at 6 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m.! Unlike some dorms, these are cleaned every day and the bedding is changed regularly. The hostel as a whole is kept very clean. The owners are incredibly helpful and sweet. They also offer various tours and airport pickup.
