The only dorm option available in Pakse, and one of the only in Southern Laos, Sabaidy 2 has unfortunately let its standards drop. It is, however, easy to find. Everyone in town seems to know it, especially the numerous tuk tuk drivers. If you're still having troubles, find Adams Internet on the main road, and from there walk right, take your first right and walk two blocks -- you can't miss the big yellow sign.
Set in a large, wooden, family-style building, there are only five beds in the dorm, so you need to have a bit of luck to get one in the high season. The room is average, and the beds are far from clean, although you do get towels. The bathroom is pretty decent by Southeast Asian standards, and hot water is definitely a bonus, especially after coming back from one of the popular motorbike trips around the region.
One of the redeeming features of Sabaidy is its wealth of knowledge about the various activities on offer. Whether it's biking around the Bolovian Plateau or onward transportation, they have it all -- plastered on the walls and in folders behind the counter. If you can catch the owner up and about (he always seems to be sleeping), he's fluent in English and French and can help you out with no problem. There is a small common area inside with a TV, and a nice garden setting out in front -- perfect for breakfast, although the food could be better.
