2 I don't know about the single/double rooms. But the Dorm sucks. A twelve-bed dorm in a huge room for 80 Yuan is definitely not a great thing. I left after one night and changed to somewhere else.

5 Amazing! After flying direct from Australia it was total luxury to arrive at this place. Classic old-world charm, very clean, well-organised, bellhops, friendly staff, and awesome building. Stay where Einstein, Chaplin, and Bertrand Russell slept! I stayed Dec '05 and Jan '06, two different rooms, both immaculate. Huge rooms, views, TV with many channels, large ornate bathrooms, total hotel opulence. And free slippers, replaced daily. Good location. staff will organise a taxi for you and make sure you don't pay more than you should -- about one hundred forty yuan to airport I think. Strange bar just around the corner that only played Elton John. Not the cheapest place in town but worth it. Short walk across bridge to the Bund. Safe and secure -- armed guards outside the Russian Embassy across the road. When arriving in Shanghai, take the four hundred thirty-five kilometer per hour MagLev train from airport to last stop. What a blast! Then take a taxi -- pay no more than seventy yuan! -- to this hotel.

4 I stayed at this hostel twice in the winter of 2002, in the shared rooms. The facilities were clean and quiet, at a very reasonable price by Western standards, but nothing to write home about. What recommends this place, in my opinion, is the historic feel of the building itself and a truly excellent location.

4 I had the unfortunate timing of being in Shanghai during Formula 1 racing. Getting a hotel was nearly impossible. For this hotel it was 1500 yuan. The rooms were okay by U.S. standards, and probably 36-star by Chinese standards. I finally had enough of the dirt and was glad to be home.

5 A delightful experience. The list of rooms offered no longer lists any rooms cheaper than 420 yuan, which are the huge doubles with private bath. They do have, however, just 3 rooms at 165 yuan which are a great bargain. Room 607 is the real prize, with an unobstructed view of the entire bund stretching away into the distance -- glorious, especially at night. Ask, just in case any of these three 6th floor rooms are available.
