The Banff Y Mountain Lodge is situated at 102 Spray Avenue just south of the Bow Valley River. The lodge is within an easy, two-minute walk from downtown Banff, but situated quite far from the bus and train station -- which may prove to be a difficult walk especially if you are carrying heavy bags.
The Lodge offers a gorgeous view of the breathtaking Rocky Mountains. Accommodation offered includes standard dormitory beds, as well as private rooms that can accommodate families and/or couples. Both private or shared bath are offered. Prices are affordable and Banff Y Mountain lodge does not charge hotel tax or GST.
Shared bathrooms are sporadic and the level of cleanliness could be improved. Private rooms are spacious, and clean towels and linen are provided. A deposit is required upon check in and is returned upon checking out. Internet kiosks and a paid wireless internet service are available, so feel free to bring your laptop and you can get logged on to the net.
The guest kitchen facilities are very basic. A deposit is required to rent pots, pans, and plates. The kitchen is cramped and insufficient for the large number of guests at the Lodge. One can be left quite hungry, especially if reception has already lent out all the pots and pans to other guests. It seems that guests may be encouraged to eat at the Sundance Bistro instead, which is located on the main floor. The fully licensed restaurant offers a hearty menu with a Southwestern flair. However it may be slightly out of some travelers' price range.
Guests can also use the on-site gym and weight room for a small fee. Paid laundry facilities are also offered and soap can be bought on-site for a small price. Free parking is also available. Reception is open twenty-four hours and will help you book various activities such as sightseeing tours and adventure packages. If you are seeking a budget accommodation with a gorgeous view, Banff Y Mountain Lodge may be the place for you.
